A current Sit has the following as responsibilities: "Our guest suite will need to be cleaned in between guests. It takes less than an hour to do a through job. I also will pay a cleaning fee that we charge to the guest to you. Must be cleaned meticulously. "
My understanding of THS rules are the home is to be vacant and sitters do not operate homeowners AirBnB’s. Can THS and other sitters please clarify this for me? Thank you
This is a violation of a couple policies. Please report it to THS.
You’re right. Report the listing to THS and hopefully it will get removed. It breaks this membership clause

Nope. Nope. Nope. Report.
Where, exactly, do I report this? Thank you
Support@trustedhousesitters.com. Document with a screenshot and the link to the listing.
Thank you. I have contacted Support.

I saw a listing that asked for cleaning and changing sheets in an AirBnb to be done “every few days”, no money offered. In that case the AirBnB was a separate building so I don’t think it was against any policies but it was a definite nope from me. Even if money was offered I don’t think I would have wanted to do it as it changes the dynamic significantly.
@robinstent it is against THS policies
to expect a sitter to do tasks / work linked to the owners/ business ( Airbnb or other )
Here is a quote from the article that @Cuttlefish posted a link to
“Please note that sitters are not expected to complete any tasks that are considered ‘work’. This may include helping a pet parent maintain any business they have “
Please let the forum know if the listing is taken down by Member Services .
Oh I see, OK I’ll bare that in mind. Seems like a reasonable rule.
I’ve declined a few (or not applied) when I’ve established there is an Airbnb within the grounds even though a third party was going to carry out the changeover. In your opinion is it not allowed to have guests in the Airbnb (even if separate building) whilst sitter there or is it just if they ask to clean etc?
Hi @Stmarys
The issues arise if a HO expects a sitter to manage the airbnb in anyway and/or airbnb guests are in the same property as the sitter breaking 3rd party rules.
I did a sit where the HO had sectioned off part of their house as an airbnb. There was a lockable door between the sections and seperate access. The HO was upfront with me and showed me the lockable (from the HO’s) side internal connecting door during our video chat. They advised the guests in the airbnb not to contact me but them. Wasn’t an issue at all for me. I waved at the young family staying a few days in the airbnb but that was my total interaction during my sit.
@richten1 I’m in that exact situation now only I was not informed about part of the house being an Airbnb until I arrived. I don’t know what rules THS has about Airbnb’s on the property, but I think it should be required to be disclosed in the listing. It’s up to the sitter to decide if they are ok with it, not the host.
“ we do not allow other people on the property whilst a sit is ongoing. Once a sitter has begun their sit, we require that the pet parent(s) have vacated the property for the entirety of the stay and no other individuals (apart from the confirmed sitters) are present during the sit. “
These are the rules , if you feel that these have been broken you can raise a member dispute. As a minimum you can comment on the situation in your review and perhaps deduct stars for listing accuracy as it wasn’t previously disclosed .
We have done a sit where there was a lodge that was holiday rental on the land . The home was situated on several acres of land . The holiday rental was not attached to the main the house, had it’s own path , garden and entrance and apart from a car being parked in the large front drive with plenty of space for our vehicle too , there was no other impact on us . It was described in the listing when we applied and we asked the host more questions before confirming the sit so nothing was hidden/ sprung on us .
I sat in a resort town where my sit home was separated from an Airbnb unit by a carport and garage. The hosts had specified that in their listing, complete with a photo and notations indicating which unit was which. If I had used the washer and dryer — which I didn’t — I would’ve had to share that in the garage.
Two separate Airbnb parties stayed, overlapping my sit dates. Made no difference to me. It was like sitting in say an apartment or condo, with neighbors. I never even saw the Airbnb guests. Just saw their cars.
Please report the one with the Airbnb duties too @robinstent as the more they get flagged the less people will try and take the proverbial and add “jobs” like this for unpaid sitters. #teamworkmakesthedreamwork
We would be happy to do that as long as thd guest suite was not connected to the main accommodation
