Hi, -5 degree when I took the do for a walk as requested by the owner on daily basis. Took me 10 minutes to put on the booties on the dog because she really doesn’t want them. At the end of the walk I noticed there is a missing booty I try looking for it but I cannot find it.
I informed the owner and she replied for me to purchase a new set and that she would reimburse me later.
My question is in my responsible to pay for this new set of booties? They’re pretty expensive.
The HO is telling you they’ll reimburse you, so what difference does it make “Who is responsible?” . Possibly the booty wasn’t on securely, so I think you are more responsible than the HO is. Maybe you could’ve been paying more attention and noticed sooner. However, these things happen and they are willing to pay. Frankly, if I had a dog, and a sitter told me the booties were gone, I’d probably order new ones online with next day delivery without even thinking about it. Since the owner has tasked you with buying new ones, just buy them and believe the HO will do as she says. She’s trusting you with her dog. You can trust her on reimbursement.
(If this is a question of affordability for you, then ask her if she could order them online and explain honestly why, If not, and in the US – venmo. If out of the US – PayPal.)
HO did not just buy it directly online but instead she asked me to buy them. That is why I suspect that the owner would like me to pay for it.
I can pay for them if you think it’s my responsibility. However like I said the dog really doesn’t like those boots. I took five to 10 minutes to put them on and secure them. However, I’m not completely convinced that it’s my responsibility.
The walk on the trail is only about 10 minutes but it’s on the beach that’s covered by snow. We also have to walk down the snow heel to get to the beach. The beach except a trail has bunch of rocks large and small all covered by snow. I went back the trail twice but I just couldn’t find it.
Yea, I wouldn’t say it’s completely your responsibility if it’s clear that the dog has not been properly conditioned to the boots, which it obviously hasn’t. May be a sensitive topic tho so obviously I wouldn’t debate that with the HO.
Regardless, I would either ask the HO to place the order or just say you can order them but due to the amount, would need the funds sent back by X timeframe so that it’s not sitting on your card or to replenish your account, but preference would be for the former. You can also say you prefer that they order it so that you’re not liable for the purchase in case something goes wrong with the order, etc. And then stuck doing the follow up.
Thank you for the excellent advice. I would preferred owner to order them online. I checked out Amazon, eBay, and Petco online and there are just too many choices and I also don’t know which size to get. It’s if the owner would just order them online. The owner mailman not like what I order and that’s another concern for me.
