Nobody’s fault. A few days into this month-long sit, the cat bit me while I was sleeping, drawing blood, so had to get up at 0300 hours and clean up. The harness for the dog was too small, so I just used his collar for the morning walk. Along comes a loose, giant Mastiff who rips into this little terrier of “mine” with grand enthusiasm. Little dog pulls out of collar, runs faster than fast into the woods and escapes. Also escapes from me. Once the owner of the Mastiff found his dog, he apologetically cruised the neighborhood looking for mine, while I walked the woods (Alaska) and down residential streets yelling, “Birdie! Birdie!” like some mentally handicapped directionless person. I’m mortified, as this is the second day of the month-long sit. Eventually, I flag down the garbage truck driver who led me to Birdie hiding under the deck of a house. A happy ending, and thank goodness Birdie was not in the harness during the attack or he most likely would be dead. However, I now use the “tight” harness, since he can escape so easily without it, and avoid that particular park in the woods. I carry bear spray with me just in case. Since nobody has been seriously injured (so far) I feel no need to disrupt the owners’ month-long vacation. We’re all grateful now and two weeks into this sit Birdie won’t leave my side.

Yikes. Hope Birdie is OK and you might want to get treatment for the bite, because cat bites often get infected.
Yes, thank you for your concern, but I monitored the bite and it’s fine. Birdie escaped uninjured albeit a bit traumatized.
