Petsitting - How many hours unsupervised?

Thank you so much for clarifying this! I figured it would be on a case by case basis but wanted to make sure there weren’t any hard fast rules about it through the company.

I actually don’t mind staying constantly with animals, especially atm as I’m just searching locally right now, I just need to know the conditions before hand in order to plan.

Makes sense to me as I have a service dog. I’m fine with whatever the HO needs, just need to know ahead of time in order to plan.

Welcome @Moni .

We joined this THS year - like you we had house sitting experience before joining . We work from “home” most of the time . We’ve been able to find sits where we could also go out and about when needed and everything is discussed with hosts beforehand. Usually in the description it will state how long the pet can be left for .

Currently on sit number 7 - this time with a cat - who spends most of the day doing their own thing outside -and there is a cat flap . So as long as they have been fed in the morning we can go out during the day if we want/need to . We are always back for dinner and cat cuddles in the evening and it’s working well for the cat, host and us .

Welcome @Moni ! I’m glad my old post was useful to you  I had concerns about whether I’d be able to find sits given I can be out of the house for up to 7 hours on some sits, but I have managed to find plenty sits for a variety of species (dogs, cats, rats, chickens!). I’m very clear with owners about my situation (it’s on my profile), so when owners accept my sits, it’s for pets who are fine with it, or the owners arrange dog walkers to come in the middle of the day, for example. As long as communications are clear and expectations are set, you will find what’s right for you. Enjoy your time on THS!

Amazing! I didn’t even think I could arrange for a sit during my busier times, so that’s really good to know! Right now I have so much to sort out in my life I really do need a quiet space, and I can’t imagine a better situation than with some beautiful little critters! And yes! I was so happy to piggy back off this post! I’m considering a big life change from the busy city film/tv industry life, back to my roots of really getting back there in nature and with animals and the environment where I feel more at peace. I’m strongly considering going to Australia and just seeing if I can find some sort of job helping wildlife or the environment out there some how, so the temporary nature of these sits locally for now is amazing and then potentially later over seas while I find somewhere for my heart to be.
Im really loving this community and how lovely and supportive everyone here is!

Yes! Sounds lovely! I may have gotten my first sit through the site, so I’m very excited, the HO is very communicative and seems very sweet. I don’t really need to leave for long periods of time right now so I would probably spend most of my time with the little fur ball

Silversitters,
Your support of other sitters has not gone unnoticed and is very much appreciated.

At this point I have had many positive experiences through THS. Though I do fear a bit that this recent experience may scare me off from it. I do appreciate how these HO have tried to consider my feelings and circumstances during this situation, but I’m not sure how to get over this anxiety/fear it’s brought up. Any advice re: moving forward?
