I hope OP takes this advice. I agree, such a nonsense review makes the HO look ridiculous. They won’t get good people after this. Don’t bother trying to respond to crazy.

Any reasonable HO would see that review about you and think how good you must be to tolerate nonsense for the benefit of a pet.

The whole review as you described seems off, but you want to keep your reply factual to avoid hurting yourself for future sits/hosts.

Unfortunately, there are some crazy people out there, whether as hosts (or sitters). Sometimes, they out themselves in their reviews, though.

Thanks – I’ll take a couple days to formulate a super-calm response  The litter box was cleaned, especially as in the 8-9 days there was two instances of poop and tiny pee because they are mostly outdoor cats and I was even told “you probably won’t see anything in there anyway as only in an urgent situation during the night while the flap is locked and one has a desperate need” I’ve had sits with 25 cats and seven litter boxes with no issues – plus I had something like 10 litter boxes at my shelter being used by 54 kittens! Seriously not adverse to cleaning litter!

Okay, THS agrees the comment plus a couple other things is a definite breach of code of conduct and they are forwarding for authorization to delete.

They also suggest I go ahead and do my response, in case it becomes an “amendment” instead of deletion.

Thank you everyone for your help and advice!!

They’re not new at all – premium members, tons of sitters all given 5-stars (and vice-versa). In our conversations, I told them that as a full-time sitter with no car, I travel extensively and have lived solo in nine countries, traveling solo, etc. I sent them photos of my hiking some of the trails by their house that go uphill, etc., so they know I am quite active. I have no idea where their comment(s) come/came from. Perhaps from me jokingly groaning once getting out of the car saying “man, these old knees aren’t what they used to be!” and laughing. They never asked any questions nor intimated anything about anything.

Am I misconstruing? “We also had some worries about her mobility and general ability to manage the practical aspects of the sit, such as getting down to floor level for cleaning and litter maintenance”.

The review sounds bizarre. Who cares if the curtains were open or closed during the day? And the body shaming innuendos are awful.

And jumping to the conclusion that your pet care was sub-par because you suggested offering the cats salmon? Wow…:open_mouth:

I would avoid a sit where the hosts criticised a sitter for not opening the curtains !!!

I would wait and see what remains after the amendment. There’s no time limit for your response.

Why in the blazing heck do they even care about the curtains open or shut to begin with. That seems like the most trivial thing I’ve ever heard on here!

Agreed. You only have one shot at the response and there is no time limit. It would look odd if you addressed something that gets removed.

So would I. That statement carries a lot of potential negative implications:

  • HOs are micro managers.
  • They either have active cameras, which they are monitoring or nosy neighbours actively monitoring.
  • They are probably petty about all sort of unexpected stuff, so very difficult to satisfy.

That alone would put me off, plus the reference to mobility is totally unacceptable.

Me too. I suspect the closed curtains interfered with the neighbours’ ability to monitor what the sitter was up to.

I’ll wait  too bad I gave them a super glowing review about how kind and generous they are! Oh well :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

This is pure speculation on my part but, given the facts that OP says they only closed curtains at night ad there’s a mention about curtains not being open, it seems they might not be fully open and that would interfere with someone wanting to follow every movement, be it through cameras or “neighbours surveillance”

Not really, it just helps show them up even more!!

I don’t think that’s too bad. If there weren’t any issues it just proves you’re honest and they go over the top for nothing. It also proves they’re weird. They were sharing meals with you and then they go and write about the way you kept their curtains!

Just mean spirited people. Sorry they came across your path. Hopefully they will soon become a distant memory.

I wouldn’t worry about it. As a HO, I would read the HO review of you and quickly determine you were stuck dealing with unreasonable HOs (curtains were closed? that’s an issue? seriously?!?!) and disregard it.

So just leave a brief factual response, then onward and upwards…

I couldn’t agree more. So bizarre.
