I recently went on vacation for 9 days and used THS for the 3rd time. I had several applications, read their reviews, and picked a sitter with whom I spoke via video call and another phone call. I had very detailed guidelines and explanations of what’s where, what they can and can’t use, do etc. Also left a printed copy on the counter. We spoke during the sit, I asked if he had questions and inquired about my cat’s wellbeing. He said everything was going swimmingly and he even said he would leave me an amazing review because the house was so nice, cat was easy and loving, etc. Well, I returned after 1 am to a disaster! the house smelled like pot (and I even found a rolled joint on the driveway), the kitchen was infested with flies and fruitflies, caked food on the counter and utensils, dirty towels in the kitchen sink, and dried salt all over the inside of my freezer. Then I go upstairs and the cat fountain is empty and running on dry, there are 3 dried out throw ups in several rooms, and the cat litter box has two large diarrhea’s (which tells me he didn’t give her the medicine he was instructed to give her. And the list goes on…garage sensor knocked off, garage also smells of smoke, trash is overflowing in the bin, and my neighbor tells me he had people over. Then, I see he used my shower!! though I was explicit to use the guest bathroom (and there’s a 3rd bathroom downstairs). No toilet paper in ANY of the bathrooms…two of the plants he was asked to water completely dry, didn’t bring in the mail nor the bins after trash day, etc. etc.
So….my question is, do I post a negative review?? I’m nervous cause he knows where I live, and even though I changed my lockbox combo, he could potentially vandalize or who knows what. I called THS, but other than posting a review, and them making an “internal note,” my only option is to file a complaint, which they then investigate by calling him! I’m uneasy about this, and your advice would be greatly appreciated!
You have to write a review otherwise the sitter will do it to someone else’s pet & home. Reviews are blind so he won’t see it until after the 14 day window. He can respond to yours once but that is it and ditto for you. You can block his what’s app no & social accounts if you’re concerned and also open a member dispute with THS. Send as much evidence in photos as you can. He should be thrown off the platform if that’s how he treats hosts! When you do write the review make it factual, detailed and non emotional so it doesn’t get personal. #wishingyouwell
You definitely should post a review of this disgusting sitter. He should be thrown off THS. Just state the facts that you have written here, keep it unemotional, he won’t see what you’ve written until he’s left your review, or until 14 days have passed. I would report him to THS.
Definitely write a factual review. You said he had reviews but If he has behaved like this on previous sits you wouldn’t be in this position if previous homeowners had been truthful.
I feel for you and the cats
That sounds awful. You should absolutely leave an honest review and rate it accordingly. There are already far too many misleading reviews in circulation, and they benefit no one.
As many have said, leaving an honest review of all sits is the right thing to do.
Overwhelmingly, our members have a fantastic experience, they should be recognised… if something doesn’t go as smoothly as we’d like, it’s equally important to share.
Check out this page for step-by-step instructions of how to leave a review.
Also, this page gives you more information about how reviews work - we changed the process back in 2023.
It is such a conglomeration of recently posted/discussed issues that it appeared unbelievable. Believe me, there are many people who would put together post like this and then sit back and laugh at people wasting their time responding.
But you definitely need to give an honest review and I think you should raise a member dispute because a sitter who manages to fail in so many different ways shouldn’t be on the platform.
