Replace the TP, request in WG

So the WG guide says leave it as you found it and replace the TP. Does that mean replace all the rolls I used? I have never seen that. Of course, I replenish the roll in the bathroom from supply, but does it mean to buy and replace what I use?

Why not ask the HO.for clarification. Maybe start with ‘I haven’t seen this before so just wanted clarification …’.
Hopefully they understand that they haven’t been clear and/or their request is unusual. We aren’t able to intuit this for you with true certainty.

Perhaps they just want to ensure that there is some TP when they get home. I agree that it is best to ask.

she has this huge bag full of rolls, not complete rolls, like she takes it from hotels. So there would be plenty upon her arrival.

If the rolls are not full - how would that work?

I would pull out of such a sit, as such a mindset could very easily lead to a lot of other expectations.

Or it is only to make sure there is TP upon her return?

How would people here in the forum know what this person means, can you not just ask her? Might be a case of clumsy language, not meanness?

Not sure of the length of your sit, but if you used only 1 roll of TP, and she actually expects you to replace it, I think that I would leave a $1 bill on the kitchen counter with a note (for the roll of TP that I used). LOL

Just leave a pack of toilet rolls appropriate to the amount you used. There’ll be plenty of sitters who buy toilet rolls automatically for their HO’s returning, and plenty who don’t, but they’ve asked, so just do it.

Unless we’re sitting for a week or less, we always buy a pack of toilet rolls for when the HO returns, the size varies on how many of theirs we’ve approx used.

There are very few HO’s that will ask, we just do it out of courtesy. In the grand scheme of things, it’s just one tiny simple request from 1 HO, when there could be 20 that said nothing, so the cost is really small when you spread this one tiny little thing over your whole pet sitting lifetime.

4 nights. Since they are half or less than half, used a few.

For a 4 night sit, in my opinion, no sitter should have to supply TP. How ridiculous!

It is not about the cost. It is about the inconvenience of having to go to a store and buy a package of TP. Most TP comes in minimum 4 rolls per package, especially in suburban California grocery stores or drug stores.

Maybe in other countries at smaller stores, they might sell TP rolls individually, but that is not normal in the US.

Owners should realize that sits less than one week are really sort of a pain in the neck for sitters. It is a lot of work moving in and out of your home, learning your home, your pets, your needs. The least you can do is supply TP, paper towels, etc, especially for short sits.

How sane did she seem otherwise?

We did one sit with my child where we weren’t exactly asked this, but for some reasons it was very obvious that the TP we were given was not the quality the host used. Interesting that my child said exactly what I had already thought, when I suggested we didn’t use what was provided but bought our own from the start: «Yes, and if it is rolls over from the package, we take them with us». We’re both very generous people in general. But we have boundaries.. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Is it possible the welcome guide was written during the Great Toilet Paper Debacle of 2020 and simply left untouched since then? Back when toilet paper had the street value of gold bullion and we all became amateur smugglers of Charmin? When neighbor turned against neighbor in the Great Paper Wars, bartering two-ply for yeast, hoarding single rolls as if they were sacred relics, and guarding bathroom cabinets like fortresses under siege? Entire dynasties rose and fell on the strength of a Costco membership… and legends tell of those who wielded the fabled Mega Roll Pack, their bounty whispered of in hushed, reverent tones. :roll_of_paper: :roll_of_paper: :roll_of_paper: :roll_of_paper: :roll_of_paper: :roll_of_paper: :roll_of_paper: :roll_of_paper: :roll_of_paper: :roll_of_paper: :roll_of_paper:

I usually bring some rolls myself, though usually well supplied. And same with paper towels, since I use them. – her paper towels are like those in school, like newsprint. Folded like kleenex. But obviously picked up somewhere. Glad I travel with a roll. But her TP are all in this clear, garbage size bag and only half full, like she took them from some place, like a restaurant or hotel. So not sure how much I am using. And also, she had some packages arrive, I had to sign for one. Sent pictures of the packages. Somehow one picture didn’t get to her so the next day, she queried me etc. Sent another picture and she got it. I took this short sit just to come up here and see the area, along the central coast of California. Chilling out after a crazy month. But some sits are a bit unusual. She mentioned how much her place would be as an airbnb before she left. It is a nice place, but rustic, small and many things in definitely used, not new shape. If the dog goes in the ocean, I was suppose to shampoo it. But no shower massage in the bath. I just thoroughly rinsed with the hose outside. Saying he might go in again and didn’t want to shampoo him too much. He has a skin condition, the neighbor thinks he is allergic to something. So a very different sit than I am used to. But the area is great. Glad I came up here.

@KittySitter This is precisely why we have a stash of paper products that will remain untouched until the next pandemic.

Is this the sit in Shell Beach you mentioned? If so, she has a lot of 5* reviews, but they mostly mention the pets and location with very little mention of the HO. I have her saved as a favorite, but so far her dates havent lined up for me. But your input sheds light on the content in previous reviews

Great to be by the ocean. It is a short sit for me, 4 nights. One note. She doesn’t want you gone more than 2 hours.

I get the sense that the reviews are due to the limited options in that location. I’m feeling a hard pass the next time she posts new dates. Thank you for sharing your insights

I had one host who had nothing for us - no toilet paper, no tissue, no kitchen towel/paper, no toiletries at all, no basic kitchen stuff including no garbage or plastic bags. It was a 12day sit. The host also left the house uncleaned. This is the only experience like this. It was our first international sit and in Dubai no less :joy: It was my second sit. The first host had all kinds of stuff available for me so we got caught unprepared.

Anyway, we went to buy all that we needed and then spent an hour cleaning everything. After which we had a wonderful time exploring Dubai.

Of course we had to leave all that we bought behind because I wasn’t going to lug cleaning and kitchen supplies for the rest of our 4 months Europe vacation. :joy:
