Reviewing Reviews

Why cant i see a prospective sitter before potentially confirming sit.

Welcome @jclamp23 do you mean meet up with a sitter before the sit is confirmed? You can do this if the sitter is local or you are willing to travel to where the sitter is . Many homeowners and sitters use a video call before confirming a sit. Hope this answers your question.

Or do you mean that you can’t see the sitter’s profile ? In that case their membership may have expired or they have been banned from the platform.

You can, if you find the right sitter. We’re sitters and we sometimes visit pet owners beforehand but only if we are going to be in their area, otherwise we video chat. But we’ve only ‘popped’ in beforehand with only ONE that wasn’t ‘confirmed’ but we knew-knew it would go ahead, we could ‘feel’ we were the right fit for each other, we’d already video’d so we both knew it, so I was totally at ease at keeping our diary free for their dates.

But all of the others were actually confirmed before we popped in, we didn’t specifically ask that, they just wanted to ‘nab’ us before someone else did. Then we popped in down the line when we were in their specific area, so it makes things very easy for both sides. When you find the right sitter bonds are formed very quickly between sitters and home owners, when money isn’t involved.

If a pet owner specifically wants a sitter to pop in and it is further afield for us, or their dates were coming around too fast whereby we wouldn’t have any free time to pop in, then there will be a better fit sitter for them out there. Also, it is typically dog owners that we would attempt to visit beforehand, as cats are independent and who knows what frame of mind they will be in on a random visit, it’s a guessing game as to whether they will choose to be aloof or friendly when we visit.

But also bear in mind that a ‘potential’ sitter you want to meet before confirming may end up feeling like they are being interviewed if nothing is confirmed beforehand, and none of us sitters want that when we are giving our time and love for free. Also a sitter choosing to outlay fuel and time to pop in and visit without anything being confirmed at all, is down to how much a sitter wants your specific sit over another that wanted to confirm straight away. Other sitters may think differently, but from my own personal point of view, I’d only do it if I was pretty certain it would go ahead.

If that is specifically what you are after, someone more local to you may be a better option, so they are more likely to be able to pop in.

I am not sure whether you are new, but if you are, reviews are great and profile details that appeal to you are great, but much MUCH more important is to trust your intuition and trust your heart. You will know-know when you have found the right sitter, you’ll be drawn to someone specifically when you have found your specific perfect sitter.

I want to see their previous sit reviews before a video call I’d made with them so I have some background to their previous sit review feedback.

John.

If they have sat before all reviews will show in the app. If they are missing reviews you will only see that in the app, not on the website. If they are new with no sits undertaken yet they should still have provided some references.

There are two reasons why you can’t see reviews:

  1. The sitter doesn’t have any (yet). That includes new sitters on THS and sitters who didn’t get reviewed by a host.

  2. There’s a technical glitch.

Otherwise, you can always see reviews for previous sits.

Oh, have you actually paid and joined THS?
