Same community. Higher standards

The problem I have with this is that I have 9 years experience outside of Trusted House Sitters with many more breeds and circumstances than I’ve had in THS. Do I need to add all of this extensive detail to my profile for it to be highlighted?

Agree! Let’s remember the amateur nature of this endeavor. It’s an exchange and a matching site. While it might be great to look for a sitter with say greyhound experience say if you are a greyhound owner, that experience could eaisly have come from someone petsitting offiste or even being an owner of that breed. If someone simply has a lot of dog experience, it might be part of the conversation that happens in a chat.

There is/was a culture at THS that helped it grow and become successful. While there is certainly a need to standardize and improve “service” for both homeowners AND sitters, turning it into super AI Rover is a waste of money that could be going into some of the simpler stuff like fixing issues that have persisted for years.

The example provided in the screenshot does not make sense .

Sarah has done 7 x sits with dogs and 2 x with cats yet has only has 1 review

If that was reality there would be a lot of red flags :triangular_flag: :triangular_flag::triangular_flag::triangular_flag::triangular_flag::triangular_flag::triangular_flag::triangular_flag:about this sitter and questions why only one host of the 9 hosts has left a review ?

Does THS not get someone who is an actual user of the service to proofread these new “improvements “ before they are released ?!

If I have experience with their breed of pet I will always say this in my application message.

It does feel as if this new feature could reduce the likelihood of some hosts reading applications in full.

Like @Makelikeanapeman I have experience outside THS as both a sitter and a pet owner. Some of the pets were breeds or types pet I haven’t cared for through THS. (There are not enough parrot sits on THS!) I would presumably have to include the missing breeds / pet types in my profile which could get very messy.

I agree with everything you say. I would even add a few points to consider:

Even the ones we have, they’re not always listed as such.

As far as I know, there’s a limit you can list in the specific section. Of course, we could always refer to it in the profile but there’s no guarantee that it’s going to be included in the “selection” shown to owners.

There is isn’t much to hope for if we take as an example the “sits we think you’ll like” suggestions. “Sitters we think you’ll like” sounds just as promising.

Yay, Olive and Mabel!

Thanks @Makelikeanapeman

This is really good feedback - we’ll be taking a look into how we can make this easier for you (and others).

I feel like the new advertisements were workshopped by marketeers looking for market share and profits. The ads are soooooo gross and creepy with the double entendres. My theory is that they are attracting the wrong sort of people to this former community. Not that expect anything else but profits over people and pets from THS. Interested in what the community thinks of these inappropriate and weird ads. Thanks for your thoughts.

Hi @SitFeesDestroyCommunity

I moved your post over to this topic as members have been using it to discuss their thoughts about the new adverts.

Feel free to take a look over the previous comments to get an idea of what members are thinking.

To save time, you can also click the summarise button at the bottom of the most recent post, which will give you a summary of the discussion. Here’s a screenshot of what you’re looking for - it’s the small button at the far right with the star on it.

Reminds me a certain LA yoga studio: YogaWorks. They got big with studios all over the country. Got bought out by an entity with no understanding of what built them up. COVID hit. They closed studios all but one I think. They went online with classes and then lowered membership prices to really cheap. Probably too cheap to sustain everything. The classes were great though. Two way zoom. The teachers adjusted and figured it out. Then the PTB decided that cheap all inclusive membership and online was the way to go, but they fired all the great teachers including one with a big following – both locally and globally. HUGE MISTAKE. They kept young influencer type teachers and made classes live or on demand and one-way via vimeo with “chat” if you had questions. Kind of the opposite of yoga mindfullness.

Any sense of “community” that existed betwen practioners and other practioners and or practioners and teachers or teachers and teachers is sucked away. They may still have 10s of thousands of members, but they are different members than the people who made the company a success to begin with.

It feels like a lack of transparency to bury the "Are THS advertisements the worst thing for this community?" topic into this thread. Especially with the contrast of “high standards” with so many people saying the ads are cringey and gross.
As a solo female sitter, the ads gave me major ick. Especially seeing it on the heels of a reported unsafe/creepy homeowners issue that THS failed to investigate.

Hi @kittym

When a particular topic has a lot of interest, it’s easier for us to collate and share feedback with the team, if it’s all in one place. As this thread is still active and has lots of comments relating to the advertising, it felt like the best place for it, and meant the OP could also easily see those replies.

There is also an active THS Marketing and Advertising thread, which on reflection, might have been a better home for the comment. Happy to move the post by @SitFeesDestroyCommunity if they’d prefer

As I mentioned on the other thread, I am passing all feedback over to the team, and if I get anything back from the team I’m happy to share it here.
