Searching for a sitter

Need a sitter in approximately 3 weeks and can’t seem to find anyone. I have sent out inquires to possible pet sitters that are nearby. They were not available for those dates. It over the Memorial Day weekend so I thought that may be an issue since plans could already be made. I did get feedback from one sitter I asked to sit to try and split the dates. I have used THS for a few year and have always gotten a sitter and good reviews. Any suggestions on how to find a sitter? I have made inquires to sitters in my area but with no luck.

Please can you perhaps clarify in your advert what a ‘subdivision’ is …. also sitters would need a car if it’s 7 miles from town so would you offer to pick them up/drop them off? Are there bikes to use? Do the dogs go off lead or is every walk a case of being tugged/pulled along? Just a few thoughts… hoping these might help you with a bit of tweaking of the advert.

Hello! Try giving my post a read for some tips on how to improve your listing

5 common mistakes to avoid for a successful listing

I also gave your listing a read, and I have to say that although it’s certainly not bad, it’s not particularly exciting. It doesn’t do a lot to hook me as a reader and is a little dry/boring. Your intro reads very much like an autobiography rather than telling sitters why they should choose you. Try hyping your listing up a little with an exciting and energetic tone. I would remove all information in your introduction from where you begin to talk about the horses onwards and simply tell sitters why the should choose you.

Your home and location section doesn’t tell sitters where they will sleep and lacks description of the house. It may be helpful to mention that sitters will need their own car or if you can lend your car if that’s an option for you.

Responsibilities section is fine, but would be helpful for sitters to know exactly how long the dogs can be left for, and how long their walks are. You also say there are 2 dogs in your responsibilities instead of 3 (probably a typo).

You have lovely pictures, but your title can definitely be changed to something more exciting (e.g “explore the north Georgia Mountains.”

If you’re searching for couples only, I strongly suggest you make this be one of the first things a sitter reads in your introduction, otherwise you may find single sitters applying.

Hope that helps!

@Audrey8 what a lovely home and dogs.
Perhaps just state where the dogs sleep, and what time they rise.

Greetings,

This sit does appears to be a good one! Splitting dates may work.

You limit yourself by only allowing couples as well.

I am 5’4", 120 pounds and I have walked a Great Dane and Saint Bernard one-handed at the same time. If your dogs are erratic on a lead and do not listen to commands, I can see why you would want two people. Without knowing how much weight or muscle Greyson has, the other two surely can’t pull an adult very much!

So the couples requirement for the reason of being required to walk more than one dog is not an acceptable reason to require a couple for your sit. However it is your home and your listing, so ultimately you (and your spouse) have the final say.

You have a lot of great reviews. But the reviews indicate most of your reviews are from when you lived in FL, not GA where you currently reside. Perhaps where you are now is not a tourist destination so that could be part of the problem. I wouldn’t have a lot of people wanting to watch my house, probably not even empty as to go anywhere requires a basic 20 minute car ride.

But if you open this up to single travelers, you may have more luck as well. Make it clear sitters need their own vehicle as well, this listing hides around that. If you have more rural location, mention the speed of the internet in the listing as well, I have turned down some sits due to slow internet speed as I work remote.

Beautiful home, beautiful pups and a great listing! Good luck!

Thank you for your input! I will make an adjustment for single travelers as well.

I imagine most people have not heard of Dahlonega. I used to live in Atlanta and have visited a few times. It is a lovely place. Maybe drop Dahlonega from the beginning of your headline and start with, Heart of North Georgia Mountains. Actually no need to include Dahlonega at all.

The house is cute. It seems like May would be the perfect time to be there - perhaps emphasize what the weather is like. Downtown Dahlonega is so cute. Perhaps a pic of the square. Is there still a weekly Bluegrass jam. Maybe mention any special events that are hapoening in town - especially live music. Mention what makes your home stand out from other places.

I’d change your first picture to one of the decks. The view and the idea of a place where people can relax will draw them in.

Sending out invites is probably not the best way to go, but did you try sending invites to people in Atlanta?

@Audrey8 We regularly spend time in Ellijay, Georgia, which is just a short distance northwest of where your home is. That area is BEAUTIFUL, so anyone who might not be familiar with it should apply for your sit because there is so much to do.

Can your pups go hiking on leash with sitters? We were just at the Toccoa swinging bridge/park, and the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail and both of those trips we did with dogs on leash. There are so many places to walk/hike and there are state parks throughout this region. Lots of shopping at orchards, antiquing, flea markets, great restaurants, history, and so on.

This is a sweet location.

We hope you find someone. Keeping fingers crossed!

Thank you for your suggestions. Very helpful! I will definitely try reaching out to Atlanta.

Ellijay is very nice. It’s about a 30 min drive from our home. We ae not yet familiar with all the parks etc as we just recently moved, but will certainly have to explore those.
Thank you!
