This happened to me with a sit in Sweden, roughly with the same time frame (3 or 4 weeks before the sit) and there are far less sits on offer there. It was a bit stressful, but I went anyway and in the end I found 3 sits to replace the one that was cancelled. I didn’t pay for extra accommodation for a single night (I would have been OK to pay for a few nights, but I was lucky). The UK has 200 times more sits on offer as far as I can see, so you can pick a really nice sit hopefully. Best of luck!
Also, don’t listen to people who are minimising your feelings. You have a right to feel what you feel. Still, I think you have lots of options to find a lovely sit or maybe more than one.
Definitely, THS has really stretched my flexibility, patience, and creativity on many occasions, and I mean that in a positive way, not as a criticism.
I actually see those as essential life skills, and as a full-time pet sitter, they’re constantly being tested. They’re always on the table.
Thank you for your message and your kind wishes. 100% agree!!
What I don’t quite understand is why people take the time to engage in these threads if it’s not to be helpful.
Some people take part here to show the world that they know better and that they are always right. (This post will probably be deleted soon so enjoy it while it’s there
)
Is it last minute though? If you were notified 2 days ago when you first posted that was 20 days before your flight booking, wasn’t it? Is that perhaps short notice, rather than last minute? Have you applied for any of the many sits in London that might be suitable?
Totally agree with this approach, compromising too much just to get a sit that fits your available dates has a high risk of disappointment.
Hopefully you have a plan B for this scenario which gives you peace of mind .If a perfect THS sit pops up that’s a bonus .
Translation: Lots of money to pay for accommodation
@MyrCar, words of wisdom and experience.
Each time we felt like we had concerns when confirming a sit then we ultimately faced surprises and/or challenges. We learn! We now give ourselves permission - if that’s an odd concept - to withdraw any application before confirmed, say if video call or otherwise highlights credible concerns. Plenty of great housesits out there.
Exactly. Over time, you develop a gut feeling about whether a sit will be a good one, even when you can’t really explain it rationally. And when you’re in doubt, it’s usually better to walk away
