Sitter declined but did not withdraw, another sitter didn't respond

This aligns exactly with our opinion and experience.

Yes, sitters choose, too. They actually have greater freedom to choose in many cases than hosts do. That’s because, unless the host’s location is in high demand, they’re typically competing for (the best) sitters.

Totally agree. I look for the right content and tone in listings and apply for only those. And I’m looking for signals all along the way.

Last week, for example, I applied for a sit in a reasonably popular city, where I’d previously lived and know well. The host replied with nothing but ā€œThanks, received,ā€ after I’d applied. I didn’t care for that useless and stingy response, so I withdrew my application.

Then the host quickly followed up, telling me that they were sorry I’d withdrawn and asking me to keep them in mind for future sits. Not a chance. Why? I can be selective and land sits pretty easily — there are so many sits. Plus, I can always stay comfortably home or do nonsit travel. Many sitters can.

Yes if I got a message about a HO ā€˜decision’ I’d withdraw my application- I need to be chosen immediately for a discussion …. I’m not hanging around and I’m glad it’s not just me  Also worth noting I’m also on Aussiehousesitters so have to coordinate my dates/discussions there alongside THS. I’m not sure HOs realise that sitters have several sources of sits. I’m doing a cat sit in July it’s not on THS.
