Yes, sitters choose, too. They actually have greater freedom to choose in many cases than hosts do. Thatās because, unless the hostās location is in high demand, theyāre typically competing for (the best) sitters.
Totally agree. I look for the right content and tone in listings and apply for only those. And Iām looking for signals all along the way.
Last week, for example, I applied for a sit in a reasonably popular city, where Iād previously lived and know well. The host replied with nothing but āThanks, received,ā after Iād applied. I didnāt care for that useless and stingy response, so I withdrew my application.
Then the host quickly followed up, telling me that they were sorry Iād withdrawn and asking me to keep them in mind for future sits. Not a chance. Why? I can be selective and land sits pretty easily ā there are so many sits. Plus, I can always stay comfortably home or do nonsit travel. Many sitters can.
Yes if I got a message about a HO ādecisionā Iād withdraw my application- I need to be chosen immediately for a discussion ā¦. Iām not hanging around and Iām glad itās not just me Also worth noting Iām also on Aussiehousesitters so have to coordinate my dates/discussions there alongside THS. Iām not sure HOs realise that sitters have several sources of sits. Iām doing a cat sit in July itās not on THS.
