Sitter visiting Switzerland from New Zealand asks for home owners to plan well in advance of required date

Hello,
I always like to have my housesits in Switzerland organized before leaving my home in New Zealand. Due to securing a manageable flight price it means planning 3-6 montjs in advance.
Is this a reasonable request or am I asking too much?

No that works. We’ve sat for several months twice in Switzerland :switzerland: whilst travelling from Turkey and planned well in advance. Always plenty of sits available as pet care is so expensive (3000 CHF for 2 dogs for 13 days one HO told us) you should be in high demand @Heather3

Hi Cuttlefish,

thank you for your response to my query.

I’ve noticed that very often, Swiss homeowners list their dates 2 and 3 and sometimes 4 weeks before the actual sit is to begin.
I like to have everything organized well before I leave New Zealand, so that I know where I’m going and I’m not spending money on hotel accommodation, waiting for an appropriate sit, applying then hopefully to be accepted.

In posting my thoughts I hoped to draw awareness to these considerations.

Best wishes for your future travels,

Heather

Hi @Heather3 and welcome to the Forum.

It is certainly a reasonable request, we are currently sitting in Switzerland and we secured our sit well over 2 months ago and we noticed there are also many other sits in the surrounding area whilst we are here.

Enjoy your travels to Switzerland :switzerland::blush:

Please also be prepared for last minute cancellations @Heather3 - we had two happen in Switzerland :switzerland: and it was costly! One was with good reason, one not. We filled our gaps with hostels, last minute sits in Germany across the border and the kind loan of a car. Even with the best laid plans this does happen so always good to have a plan B if so. You might want to look at premium membership and what the insurance covers (if you don’t have it already) &/or consider transport like FlixBus which can save you as it’s such good value in one of the most expensive countries in the world! We do almost all our sits internationally so completely understand the balance between cost & logistics being such a challenge. Best of luck :crossed_fingers:t3:

Thank you Cuttlefish for the tips and good advice. I do have Premium membership and l will have a look at Flixbus. Having experienced a last minute cancelation, it’s good to learn how others cope in the same situation.
As a solo and not so young traveller I really do try to have a plan B!
