I posted a question just like this back in October. I was told to join AussieHouseSitters and I did. I landed a 5 week dogsit for my family over Christmas. I was told I should visit Queensland because it’s beautiful. So we booked a 9 day Airbnb in Port Douglas. Holy cow heaven on earth. Now we are in the Gold Coast for a month. And then we will start a Dogsit in Brisbane in February and that will take us to our 90 tourist visa end. Wow, wow, this country is BEAUTIFUL. All great advice from members of this forum. We’re having such a great time here I almost don’t want to leave.
send me a private message.
I’m delighted you are enjoying yourself @IHeartAnimals , you’ll have to come back and explore other parts of this amazing country, every single state has its treasures.
So glad our beautiful country hasn’t disappointed you @IHeartAnimals. Continue having a wonderful time here.
@temba this is the view from our balcony. You better believe we are enjoying your beautiful country. And the 50 cent public transportation is fantastic!
Nah, it’s not the spiders or snakes you have to watch out for, it’s the drop bears…
My uncle nearly lost his arm to one of those. Some heavy antibiotics saved it.
Gee, he was lucky!
If you cross the ditch, you’ll meet some hoop snakes…They hang out with the Taniwha in the Waikato. Watch Split Enz ‘Dirty Creatures’ & you’ll see a few
Good one @Nagy26
Australia is the home of 8 out of 10 of the world’s deadliest snakes, marine stingers so small you can’t see them that will kill you, saltwater crocodiles that take people off the shore never to be seen again, bush fires, floods & cyclones (often at the same time), so the spiders are the least of your worries! But we have survived ok into to our 60s without any near death experiences from these things. You just need to be aware of your surroundings.
On the other hand, the after effects from encountering a drop bear can be hard, with terrible headaches, vomiting & general lethargy for a good 24 hours! From experience I try and avoid them.
Looks like the Sunshine Coast @IHeartAnimals
Oh well, who wants to be in Australia anyway? I like the rest of the world
@Crookie we’re in surfers Paradise in an Airbnb until our last Dogsit in Brisbane. That literally takes us to the end of our 90 day visa
While you’re in Surfers try to get up to the viewing deck at Q1, the view of the glitter strip is amazing, particularly when the sun goes down.
Also while at the GC, if you want a really good feed of fresh & cooked local seafood, go to Charis Seafood at Labrador, about a 20 minute drive north or easy bus ride for 50c. It has a great safe swimming lagoon at the park with amenities and everyday at 1pm they feed all the fresh fish scraps to the pelicans who come in like clockwork. It’s amazing & free & attracts big crowds.
@Crookie awesome, I will put that on our itinerary. Now that we’re chatting, I think you were the one who recommended Queensland to us. Big thank you. We’re having the experience of our lives. We snorkeled in the great barrier reef a couple weeks ago and now we’ve seen one of the 7 wonders of the world
It’s the best Australian state but I’m definitely biased but then again all the tourists we get from the other states back me up
So glad you’re having a great time. DM me when you get to Brisbane if you want to catch up.
@Crookie Our Brisbane sit starts 2/23. I’ll DM you after I get settled in. I’d love to catch up in person.
Yeah ill definately look into the options. I’ve been to the blue mountains before and it’s so lovely.
