Has anyone tried six months to a year or more of full-time sitting, going sit to sit, WITH their own dog? I am thinking about it for the future but wondering if enough owners really ARE okay with sitters bringing their own pet. Seems owners will say they are ok with it in their listing, but will usually choose a sitter in the end who doesn’t have a pet with them.
This has been asked several times. Use the search function, but, long story short: it is possible, but will very severely limit your choice of sits.
Thank you; I am aware of old posts about this. I have been a sitter for THS for many years, but only brought my dog one time. Looking for new insights specifically from those doing full-time, long-term travel.
Hey there
You might already know this, but just in case you did not since you said you are only recently looking to sit with your dog, a filter for sits that accept pets has been added relatively recently.
Definitely cuts down the options, but given the number of total sits on THS, it still amounts to a pretty decent selection in places with a lot of sits, like the UK and the US.
I know it can be frustrating when a host says they are open to different types of sitters, but then they appear not to be.
I do think that many are genuinely willing to consider different types of people, but that does not mean they may not still have certain preferences, and who they end up going with will depend on the mix of applicants they get.
For example, someone may be open to a sitter with pets, but if they saw another sitter that was equally desirable without a pet, that might give them an advantage. A host in a rural, more isolated area may be open to single sitters, but if they got an application from a couple, they may prefer them for that reason if they have concerns a solo sitter may end up getting bored, feeling unsafe or whatever…
Good luck!
