Sitting with someone else in house

Just wondered how sitters would feel if asked to sit if there was potentially someone else living in the house. We have a lodger who rents a room. They don’t use any other part of the house. They have their own toilet and shower. They work all day and literally only sleep here. They usually go home at week ends too.

The house is a large 4 bedroom farmhouse and we hardly know they are here.

Can I have options please?

Thank you

What you describe is not allowed by THS. No third parties living in the home with the sitter.

This breaks THS policy, sorry. I suggest you read up on THS guidelines & policies to ensure your sit doesn’t break any

As others have said it’s not permitted by THS. Regardless even if it was allowed it’s not something we would be comfortable with. Could you come to an arrangement with your lodger to pet & house sit?

Option: Pay someone to stop by 2-3x per day (depending on pet’s needs) when the lodger is not there.

Hi @helen60

I guess it would be a bit like you booking a holiday rental to share with a random stranger. Would you be comfortable doing that? I wouldn’t, even if THS terms allowed it…

I should add that I do regularly stay in hostels and bunkhouses, which are a great low-budget base for hiking adventures, so I’m not averse to the communal nature of some accommodation. But I would certainly consider private accommodation to be one of the perks of a THS sit, and it goes a long way towards making the sit the ‘fair exchange’ that it should be.

@helen60 absolutely not - it is completely against the rules of THS.

I don’t like when people try to downplay having someone else live in the house. At least you asked the forum and didn’t just randomly spring into conversation after confirming the sit that a random man also lives in the house

Do you genuinely believe that your lodger is some sort of invisible person that would have no impact on a sitter who is there voluntarily as part of a free exchange service? Let’s be for real…
