Some advice needed - possible mismatched expectations

Strange. It seems the OP has recently read the forum but appears to have disappeared from this thread. I agree it would be helpful to have an update from her.

@smiley @Silversitters @Newpetlover Patience, dear friends… HO’s n I to have a powow this week. Thanks for your concern!

Does that mean that I’m not natural? Would explain a lot  I’ve written that way since long long before AI. Just trying help.

@Jenny @Cuttlefish @Silversitters @GotYourBack @MaggieUU @Felinelover @Maggie8K @Newpetlover @co_ri_na @Smiley HI all! I messaged the current HO’s THS inbox with policies and requests after having a past HO, current friend, give feedback and suggestions.

I await their reply…

How are your sits going, guys?

Thanks for your support!

@mollsyA, seems a wonderfully progressive action step . Hopefully the HO responds in a timely and pragmatic way. Ultimately HO may need to take a deep breath and determine what they would like to happen. THS sits work best with a fair trade, and works somewhat with an acceptable trade. But sometimes neither is possible. Guess you’ll see how unfolds.

Suspect many housesitters would have simply given notice to a seemingly troublesome Pet Parent. But three month sit can be appealing. Kudos on resiliency. Good luck.

I hope they respond in a level-headed manner.

I’m a HO and we have a sitter confirmed for 3.5 weeks in April, so next month we will be deep cleaning. Except our yard since we pick up our dog’s ‘deposits’ there every single day

Well, friends,

There was zero responsibility nor compassion. But! We came to a pretty fair agreement. We’ll reevaluate in a cpl weeks.

Thank you so much for your feedback and encouragement!!

Molly

@mollsyA, ‘zero responsibility nor compassion’ does not sound great. Glad you came to some form of agreeable outcome. Housesitting is not a paid job. Just a volunteer trade. But we do appreciate that some listing quirks are worth extra effort, as they have offer other positive attributes. Look after yourself. Depending on your location, and if appropriate, there may be plenty of alternative housesits out there.

Thank you for your thoughts.

@Jenny I’m going to keep this thread for the entirety of this sit to keep a record, encouragement, followup etc. I’m not a big fan of these HOs. Might need to dip if they continue breaking policy. Is there any way to reprieve me from penalty,( ie not allowed sits as long as the present is active) should I need to cancel?

@mollsyA what advice have you been given by member support so far ?

Did they tell you that you can contact the Urgent Support Phoneline - it’s a 24/7 phone number where you will speak to a person in real time .

If you need to leave the sit due to the hosts breaking the T&Cs you must give the hosts at least 24 hours notice ( in writing ) - explain your reasons - their breaking THS terms . Quote the specific clause if you can - forum members can assist if you need help with that.

At the same time inform THS of the same by calling the 24/7 phone number - ( calls are recorded and you can ask for a transcript)

Take screenshots as proof of your messages with the hosts - and any other evidence you have of terms being broken .

You can request that the sit is curtailed (the end date changed by member services ) because the host is breaking the terms .

Explain that you have given the host sufficient notice to make alternative plans for care of their pet(s) . When the sit is curtailed ( end date changed ) by MS then you will be able to apply for other sits .

Take a screen shot if the listing that shows no third parties were disclosed .

You may consider raising a member dispute - did member services explain this to you ?

Hi @mollsyA

No worries, please keep us updated about how things are going!

I think @Silversitters has given you the best advice here, I don’t have anything else to add! (thank you so much @Silversitters  )

@Jenny @Silversitters @Maggie8K @Cuttlefish Hey gang. These folks are just not my cup of tea. And, apparently theirs. There is mistrust on both sides is what I sense. I do this full time to live “rent free” while I study for courses for a change in career. I don’t want to feel “stuck” but there aren’t sufficient sits to lean on in this area. I’m venting I guess but if you have words of wisdom, prayers, insight, etc pls let me know thanks!

Molly

P.S. I suspect our ratings will be less than optimal for each other. Thoughts on that?

Can you give us a bit of an update on what’s happened since you set some boundaries as will be easier to advise that way? #sendinghugs

Has the sit finished @mollsyA ?

Hi,
I guess you are still in this sit and have about three more weeks to go.
Did you manage to agree on an acceptable routine with the paid sitter?
I guess the yard will be poo free by now, hopefully.

The only way you can deal with this is being honest and factual. Word it nicely, try to avoid emotional or judgmental terms and address important issues, anticipating, if possible, things they might mention in their review.

I misunderstood, possibly overreacted… I thought they were suddenly, or still, having the pooper scooper, visitor person check on food and water a month in. When I checked in they quipped, “even though we agreed to once weekly, we will return to our requested twice weekly” for her visits. I reminded them of the 3rd person policy which, even though they broke it, I would meet them halfway allowing once weekly. When the pooper scooper gal assured me they aren’t continuing to ask for that, I returned to HOs apologizing for the misunderstanding with screenshots of my training with the pups.

Oy vay I don’t like them.

Hi! Still on this sit yes. thanks for tracking! the poop gal arrangement is working in my favor.

…til May 10th

I did remain honest factual and polite.
