Some advice needed - possible mismatched expectations

@Jenny thank you so much for your affirmation. I like to check in with ya’ll in case it seems I am overreacting, incorrect, etc. Their profile states they will be ongoing supportive and welcoming and made to feel comfortable. Thank you for keeping in touch. I mentioned before this feels a bit lonely. ugh

Sending you much solidarity @mollsyA - I hope the Forum can be a warm voice while you navigate things!

This sounds like a difficult HO. The yard full of poop would have sent me running, that really grosses me out. I hope the situation sorts itself out.

These sound like bad hosts. Leaving the sitter with little propane/source of heating for example seems to violate terms for habitability, so the sitter could potentially quit the sit.

When I had to phone the Urgent Support Phone Line ( when hosts were returning home early ) they were supportive .

They will encourage you to work it out with the hosts ( which you have already tried )

MS won’t initiate any action unless you specify the kind of support you need, so it’s important to know what outcome you’re aiming for. Stick to your priorities ( third parties/ lack of heating )

I suggest that you do take screenshots of the listing and WG that shows that the third party was not disclosed when you confirmed the sit . Listings can be amended by the host at anytime so it’s important to have screenshots as proof that shows what the listing said at the time you applied and confirmed the sit .

PS - When you say no TP do you mean none at all on arrival ?

Thanks for your support. I’m seeing the 2nd layer of doo doo while the snow melts ugh.

EEEEWWW. I never understand this mentality. Our cat litter boxes get scooped daily because otherwise they keep pooping, it smells, is generally unsanitary, and just makes a bigger chore later on. Same with picking up dog poop from the yard. Just gross.

That sounds incredibly gross and unwelcoming.
As @Jenny and @Silversitters said, it would be helpful to decide what outcome you would like to have and then reach out for specific support.
It’s also important to

As well as pictures of the yard. These will be helpful to prove their lack of compliance with the rules.

Apart from the practical side of things, you have all my sympathy and rest assured that you are not overreacting and that this is not how normal hosts behave. Ignoring the rules after being made aware of them and blaming you is not normal behaviour.

Keep up the spirit!

Poop scooping is my responsibility. With the caveat that as promised a month before, they’d have it picked up. Disrespectful, no? @Felinelover

Extremely! It’s only your responsibility while you are there, not picking up a prior months worth. Just ick.

L.E.A.V.E if you let it go they’ll do the same with the next sitter!
Why would you put up with this?
If it was only one issue I’d say get it sorted but all things combined especially their attitude it’s a hard no from me
Yes we feel/are responsible but so are they

Well @Jenny @Silversitters thank you again for your support. I am awaiting MS and some wisdom from above…

I’ve sent you a DM @mollsyA

@mollsyA, really sorry to hear of your experience.

After ~60 housesits, we’ve faced some surprises. Mostly adverse. We take different approach depending on the severity of the surprise, and the duration of the housesit. If housesit is brief then we’ll take deep breath and move forwards, but a multiple month long sit warrants careful thought. Life is simply too short for silliness.

We’d very much support comments by @Silversitters on focussing on what outcome you seek, as this will likely substantially aid necessary conversations. If you determine desire to terminate housesit then provide pet parents with due notice. If you prefer to complete housesit then list specific actions. Be direct. Likely this includes paid person picking up excess dog poo from prior to housesit (wholly unreasonable). This may also include other items.

In regards the ‘regularly paid sitter’ then suggest reflect on approach. Several of our housesits have included paid dogwalkers, paid doggy daycare (or even paid cleaning). Some Pet Parents are motivated by continuity. Some do not want to lose their paid service provider. Regardless, we have seen such paid services as a boon rather than an issue. If someone else is taking care of pet(s) for a day then we have a day off.

All comes down to what you want to happen next. If you cancel then Sit Cancellation Insurance would not apply. If you intend to cancel then THS systems would prohibit you from applying for new housesits until the existing one is terminated.

Suggest take deep breath. Work back from outcome. Take care of self.

Did you use AI by any chance for your reply?
