Prepping for our last THS sitter, arriving in 2 weeks time. This will be an 8 day sit and our last one with THS as we will not renew our membership next year. Our travel plans have shifted since we purchased our motorhome, and our pets will be traveling with us for the next couple of years at least! We returned last week from a month long trip and the cats adjusted just fine to life on the road, so that sealed our decision.
Our sitter is US-based and already in the SoCal area, so thankfully no concerns about immigration or travel delays for his arrival. He has excellent reviews, and I hope will enjoy his time here. I think my pup will love him. My cats, of course, will be far more judgemental.
Deep cleaning is nearly done, just need to steam clean the sofa this week, and clean/sanitize the fridge this weekend. Then a normal cleaning just before he arrives.
Our sitter is a vegetarian and avoids cheese, so our welcome dinner menu will shift from my tried-and-true lasagna to grilled black bean and mushroom burgers (homemade patties), homemade burger buns (I enjoy baking), grilled vegetables, and homemade sweet potato fries. He is fine with eggs and milk, so some peach cobbler for dessert.
It’s really been a great experience with THS. We’ve had a range of sitters, different ages and ethnicities, some couples and some solo. When it works well, and it’s a good match, it really is fun for all.
Hopefully the future brings about good changes for THS, because we’ll be back if our travel routines change in the future!
On a side note, I bought a small salad spinner because of the thread on here about homes lacking salad spinners. I always thought they were useless but guess what. They do make lettuce crisper! So, now I love salad spinners! Go figure!
I will fondly think of this forum whenever I am spinning my leafy greens dry
And, even more so, your descriptions of appreciation for your sitters, your concerns about their needs and your every attempt to make their stays as comfortable and welcoming as possible set a standard for all !
Thank you! We are excited for our future travel plans (summer next year is in Alaska!) but also traveling with our pets (who we consider family) is so rewarding
Nice, inside passage cruise, I assume? We did one a few years ago and fell in love with Alaska. We vowed to return and explore the interior of it more, hence our expedition planning for next summer

I can definitely put out there that we may likely be in Key West, Florida the week of Christmas. If there are any sitters out there - we have a reservation at a great spot, with a private dock and tiki hut to entertain. So, DM if you’re around! We’ll definitely have good food and happy times, and a cute golden to pet (and two judgy kitty cats to view from afar )
Me too. I used to have a salad spinner and it was useless but following a sit where the owner had a great one, and reading on the forum about them, I tried it and was converted and on return purchased the same !!
Sorry to hear that you’re leaving @Felinelover but I’m excited for what comes next for you!

Sounds great but unfortunately the sit is not for a cat that you can leave alone for the day but for a separation anxiety dog. That’s what they pay the big bucks for, ha.
