Some sitters would love it, each to their own. The most animals we have done is 13 but that was a mixture of cats, dogs, etc, and whilst I wouldn’t do it every week, it’s nice as an occasional thing, maybe once or twice a year. It keeps you totally present and indulged in the moment.
I did a sit with 10 cats last year but 5 where semi feral outdoor cats that just needed feeding twice a day (as did the other 5 indoor cats).
Hello, @Globetrotter Please feel free to DM me the link to the listing as you are correct Pythons fall under Constrictors in the T&Cs. @Silversitters Thanks for spotting this!
Hi Carla: Just had a look at the listing which has now been changed since yesterday. The pics of the snake have been removed and the post now describes the snake as a “baby fancy ball python”. The homeowners have noted that they are aware that this reptile is not allowed within the THS guidelines and the snake will be taken care off by a neighbour for the duration of the listing and will not be in the home.
Thanks, @Globetrotter Super helpful!
I just checked the link and can see that Membership Services has been in touch with them and they will make sure the snake is with their neighbours during the sitting period. I think Membership Services has been doing an audit of snakes on the platform after it was raised on the forum, so thank you for being so helpful with this.
I removed the link from your post after I saw it due to posting terms. Thank you again!
Wow, 30 litter boxes is crazy! I have a repeat (paying) client with 16 indoor cats. She has them separated into 2 groups, one in a specially furnished granny-flat, with lots of cat trees, toys, etc. The smaller group is in a different room, also just for cats. It takes me about an hour to scoop all the litter boxes, refill water and food, and sit on the floor to socialize the cats. They were all feral/strays that this woman takes care of in a huge house. It must be expensive, but very admirable.
One person’s nightmare
…is always going to be another person’s dream
Pitbulls are NOT bad dogs. Idiot owners are the problem. I’ve met dogs of all breeds as a rescue volunteer - small breeds are more likely to have aggression issues due to owners who think they get enough exercise running around the house resulting in the dog not being socialized. Pitties just want to snuggle on the sofa draped across your lap. I adopted a Jack Russell who was extremely reactive and I was, at minimum, her third home at 3.5 years old.
That’s very true!
We’ve sat for 13 cats in Oregon! As cat lovers it was a delightful experience for us. Six had free run of the house and 7 lived in a catio attached to the garage.
Pit bulls are the breed most likely to bite and attack humans. That has been proven time and time again. That’s why some apartments ban them. They can also be lovely dogs, properly trained and socialized.
You may not be aware that many people will throw Pitbull out as the breed name due to media hype yet they have no idea which breed bit them. When shown photos of dog breeds the person will almost always point to a photo of an entirely different breed than the one accused of the incident.
@karen_v You might not be aware, but there are tons of breed verified studies that back up my comment. This data is from the American Animal Hospital Association. Insurance companies and other entities don’t make these decisions based on anecdotal self reports. We all know lots of nice pitties. And pit mixes are generally great dogs. But it’s disingenuous to argue that the bite risk is the same for pits and other breeds.
Why is the discussion now about pitbulls and dog attacks when the OP posted about 13 cats? Gone off topic again!
People have been commenting on sits they would and wouldn’t want based on the type and number of animals. Someone jumped in after a poster said she wouldn’t sit a pit bull.
Personally I wouldn’t pursue a sit with even one indoor cat.
Edited to meet posting guidelines
I agree. This kind of discussion needs to be in its own thread so that I can avoid it.
Hi everyone, just a polite reminder to keep this topic on track. The topic has started to move away from the OP’s post and as Moderators we never want to shut new discussions down so please feel free to start off-topic discussions on a new thread. Thank you.
We have never considered applying for a sit with 13 cats . However the comments on this thread made us re-consider our opinions on sits with multiple pets . The discussion reminded us of a sit we had seen a year ago - perfect location but a lot of pets to care for and a new member without reviews . At the time we has PASSED and didn’t apply for the sit . We assumed that the responsibilities would take far longer than the time the owner had estimated in the listing .
Subsequently we have seen reviews from sitters raving about the ease and cleanliness of the sit.
After reading this thread and the positive experiences of caring for multiple pets , we decided that if new dates were listed for this sit in future we would apply .
Coincidentally new dates for this sit were listed this morning !! We applied , the owner has been in touch to say we look like a great match and we have a video call set up.
So we want to say a big thank you to the OP and everyone who contributed to this thread and for changing our perspective on sits with multiple pets.
That’s great! I am cat allergic so I don’t take sits with any cats unless they are outdoor only cats like feral cats who are “kept” as barn cats. But I was surprised by the positive sitter reviews for this sit. So it really does seem that the HO is organized with the cats care and it could be a great sit for someone.
My first sit in TH was for 9 cats and 6 horses. Only one of the cats lived in the barn, the others in the house. The house was lovely and clean, with no smell. The owner has a set up under the washer and dryer (where you would have a base) There were 3 litter boxes in there and an exhaust fan that went off anytime a cat exited. It all depends on the situation but of course that is hard to know from a write-up.
