The HO simply informed THS that she was now the owner of the daughter’s dog, updated the listing and that was how it got sorted. The HO is Australian so pretty pragmatic… I was happy with this approach having pointed out the T&Cs issue after confirming the sit. (I’d not thought about it before reading the Forum threads).
The HO was 2 dogs her daughter has one dog, the mother was attending her own daughter’s wedding… so it made sense for the x3 dogs to be together, plus they know each other. The sit is only 3 nights so I was happy…
The HO also said if walking them was too much (depending on the weather) to simply throw balls into the swimming pool and they’d be happy dogs! A very chilled HO ….
Sharing private correspondence is covered in our Terms of Service under Content Standards:
- You may not use or make public another person’s private correspondence received outside the forum, whole or in part, without their specific permission. This includes messages and emails from other members, non-members and TrustedHousesitters staff (where not part of an email campaign sent to multiple members).
While we can’t allow a copy-paste of a Membership Services reply, it’s fine for members to paraphrase the outcome of a query with Membership Services e.g. in this case OP states in their reply that THS confirmed they are insured and covered fully by THS insurance because the second dog was listed within the original THS approved advertisment.
I hear what you’re saying about providing an article to clarify answers to the question, and I’m happy to take that to the team, to see if they can create something like a Help article or a blog which covers it.
Leave this with me and I’ll see what the team say.
Jenny
Someone else in some other thread once said that this is probably because THS does not want to be an insurance company, with all the regulations that that would entail.
Sounds promising!
Great caveats!
You did stir a hornet’s nest…but that is OK.
Thank you for the updates. I am wrong all the time, it happens, I am never the smartest guy in the room but often not the dumbest either. I also work in the insurance industry and as @Newpetlover pointed out, this may not be an insurance policy but it is worded as such and is designed to act as such and is advertised to us members as such. Trust me, if THS has a $1MM claim for Alien Dog…it would be an uphill battle, not to mention the HO animals. We have forums discussing the sitter/HO cancellation policy, I haven’t seen any where someone was injured and has experience with the Accident & Third Party Liability Plan. Perhaps that is a new forum topic…
However, I am also covered Accident & Third Party Liability Plan as that was one of the reasons worth the upgrade from the bottom tier membership. IF, and since you didn’t let us know how the sit is, how the alien dog (SIL dog) is behaving so we don’t know, but IF for some reason the alien knocks down an elderly frail woman into the street and causes a gravel truck to careen out of control to miss her, hit a couple cars and then knock out a transformer, I have MUCH MORE CONFIDENCE that the third party insurance will pay out $1MM (the limit in America) much easier if the HO dogs knocked the old frail elderly woman down versus the alien dog. But if Alien Dog bites someone and draws blood, here in USA that is essentially an automatic $50K lawsuit, that may or may not be any easier. THS didn’t design the plan to actually pay out out I imagine unless THS uses an actual insurance company to back it.
Also, as @Silversitters pointed, if Alien Dog (or the others) have to go to the vet in the event of an emergency (it has happened to me!)…hopefully you have had the conversation with the HO and Cruella De Vil about that as well.
This is all hypothetical however. From the sounds of it, you are in a much better place, and if you aren’t legally, your mind is so at least that part is good! But what turn of events this forum took…LOL!
As @MaggieUU stated, you seem to have 20+ reviews so you are doing something right. Just remember that being too nice can work against you and choose when it is appropriate to be nice versus being smart. We all learn something from every sit, major or minor.
Thanks again!
Hi All,
Feel free to see if this forum becomes popular or not!
Artificial intelligence can make whatever one wants! But we’re getting off-topic now, so…
Just for the record, I did find one. LOL!
No kidding!
I actually saw, the elderly lady, the truck, the transformer… Even Alien dog exactly as pictured by @KenandMary1998!
Thank you for the explanation @Jenny
A Help article would be helpful as conflicting answers have been given by member services to different members .
When I contacted MS and asked the question I was told that Pet Parents must own the pets on their listing.
No problem - I’ll see what we can do to clarify things. I’ve also filled @Carla in and asked her to take a look at this discussion as she’s the font of all knowledge when it comes to THS
Between us we’ll get this clarified, if you don’t mind bearing with us while we see what we can do.
@Happypets To be fair, they clarified that the additional dog was in the listing by five posts in. Long before you provided an opinion.
@lou28 if you read the entire thread and count again properly, you will find I actually gave my opinion in the 12th post and the OP didn’t clarify the second dog was included until the 14th post.
My later response was to contradict the OP’s later assertion that expressed opinions relating to the insurance situation were wrong. Since those responses - mine included - were based on the original information supplied, which did not state the additional dog was included.
Your right! Apologies. Someone else made the comment, assessing based on the dog being in the original listing. Both OP & commenter have green symbols & my brain didn’t filter the difference.
No reviews done for this sit @StanHants?
