I hear you. I’ve been doing a lot of nonsit travel and am now so snug at home that I can’t imagine wanting to be sitting anywhere.
I normally don’t sit during year-end holidays anyway. But I’ve scaled so back on sitting this past year that my last sit was during the summer. And I’m in no rush to sit again.
I’ve never heard of sticking things down with wax because of the cat Clever solution.
You can put duct tape on countertops etc., sticky side up, and after stepping on that a couple of times cats may be put off getting up there. It’s important to take a little bit of the stickiness off before you do it – stick it to the carpet, or your clothes, or something like that, and pull it off, a few times before you put it out. You don’t want them getting really stuck in it. Just enough to make them think ‘ugh’ and shake it off their feet.
Two weeks is long enough for me these days - even though I used to do sits that were months long. What I always miss most is my own bed - I’ve got it all just perfect.
I must say I enjoy the return home to peace and quiet and my own lovely bed, no obligations or pressures to perform. I do enjoy the sits immensely for what novelty they offer, the location, home and garden or flat, Home Owners and of course the pets’ company and caring of them.
The one helps me appreciate the other.
I don’t get homesick. I was sent away to boarding school at 8yrs so got used to being resourceful that way.
Many places are lovelier than my own place! I so enjoy pets it’s always a wrench!
Pet free time is to be valued too though, which I’m sure Home Owners also appreciate!
This has happened to us in the past but realised it was often because of our own lack of motivation to explore.
We ended up starting a YouTube channel which has become a great motivator to get off our fat a## and explore so we have footage and content for our next episode.
Even if we get bad weather it gives us time to edit and lay out storyline’s for upcoming videos. It’s been quite the motivator and it, strangely enough, has gotten us off the social media roundabout/rabbit hole as our friends can now see our adventures without us being overly active on each platform.
I imagine doing a blog with still photography would be similarly satisfying if you don’t have a bent for editing.
Oh that is very tough, of course it makes everything a bind. I had Covid on a sit.. still did the chores but no cleaner .. too Risky! When you’re struggling and you feel your head is being pushed under water!
Amazingly I bounced back. Hope you do too. There are some nasty lurgies about.. take good care. Be kind to yourself.
It’s early stages I was ‘taken down’ 24 hours ago so a lot worse before I get better I’m afraid…. then in 7 weeks we’re back here full of beans I hope for the end of the sit for 2 weeks.
Wishing you a speedy recovery. Tangentially, I was wondering whether weather has contributed to your discomfort. I’m feeling it more this winter and ordered myself one of those lamps that mimic sunlight.
This is our 1st winter sit- last Xmas we did x3 sits in Perth Australia 43° this year it’s been 4° but I’m now 39° so just on my own I’m heating the house!
Hubby is perfectly happy he’s been reading a hefty tome of a book and loves the log fire and has been very chilled and sleeping a lot…
Sharing this here in case useful for other folks, about how the SAD lights I mentioned above work. They don’t produce any heat. Instead, they work this way:
I mention this for folks who might end up sitting where it’s often overcast or otherwise dreary. Of course, they have to be legit SAD lights, not just knockoffs that might not deliver the right spectrums.
The version I bought has a timer and various brightness levels. I’ve been trying out 30 minutes daily. I just sit and read with the light on, no effort.
Hope you’ve recovered fully from that awful flu, Bonny – that alone can make any sit feel so much harder. For me it really depends on the animals. When they’re easygoing, the whole sit feels so much lighter and time goes by quickly. My previous sit was a little Maltese with severe anxiety (not disclosed) who barked constantly at the smallest noise, and I honestly couldn’t wait for that one to end – I was literally counting the hours and that one week felt like it lasted forever.
This current sit is a month with two relaxed cats and an automated cat flap, and it’s the complete opposite experience – the time has gone so fast and I actually don’t want this sit to end.
Got home on 1st Jan and have picked up a tummy bug now… we’re off to Salzburg on 9th Jan so fingers crossed I’ll be better by then, I think I was run down with the Flu so caught this other thing too.
Yeah Bonnie, was just reading about the amount of viruses currently circulating in the UK, sounds like a nasty winter. If you get two at once or just one after the other it’s a bit rough.
