Time dragging on a sit?

Has anyone ever been on a perfectly nice sit but where time dragged?

Definitely! I am not a remote worker, so I have plenty of time to do whatever I feel like on sits. The longest sit I’ve done out of 15 so far was 11 days. Most days of a sit I am very happy to snuggle with the pets and enjoy my new environment, plus take scenic drives, go for swims if it’s warm out, do touristy things, and just hang out at home with the pets and veg. However, I think on every sit, just like at home, I’ve had at least one day where I’m kind of bored because I don’t feel like doing any of my usual pastimes/hobbies or taking a walk or drive. And on those days the sit drags. But just like at home, that spell passes and then I get renewed pleasure out of going out and exploring or staying in my pajamas all day:)

I think possibly it’s because I’ve got an Allotment now (an English plot of land for growing food) and just can’t wait to get planting as soon as I get back Jan 1st. I’ve been reading seed catalogues online and planning my spring campaign! Our son is visiting Europe from downunder and we will meet up with him and his wife in Innsbruck 9th Jan so I can’t wait as the last time we saw him was Christmas 2024. This is our first depths of winter sit and it’s the short days and cold weather that’s maybe putting a dampener on things. Or maybe I’m just tired…. the dogs are lovely the house is lovely it’s just me I think

It is quite understandable and a year end can give us cause to reflect. You may want the sit to be over as you are excited to see your Son and to get on with your allotment plans.

Try and live in the moment and remember how excited you were to plan this trip.

We are at home this year but have been remembering all the lovely memories we made with my Mum who is no longer with us. She often joined us on our Xmas sits.

Yes my Aunt died in February and we’re here mainly for my Uncle as it’s his 1st Christmas without her. The HOs very kindly allowed us to have him here for Christmas lunch he’s 89 and quite frail. So we need to get through NYE too and then we go home. I think there’s a lot going on in my head… I’m very glad to be able to help the HOs be with their families this Xmas/NYE. It’s a win win really but I might be homesick maybe?

Speaking of time that stands still … I just wrapped up a TWO-MONTH-long sit in a freezing stone house, located in what must be the ugliest and most tedious small town in Provence, complete with remarkably limited public transport making it difficult for me to visit neighboring so much prittier small towns. Somehow, I survived.

I had a fair idea of what I was getting myself into, yet I proceeded regardless. Challenge accomplished. Do I get a medal for that?
p.s. but the doggy was lovely, we bonded for life

OMG that does deserve a medal :1st_place_medal: we’re currently ā€˜coping’ by binge watching series on Sky Atlantic a service we don’t have at home: hubby likes White Lotus, Landman, and Mobland.

This was also my lifeline. After fifteen years without as much as turning on a television, I have become fast friends with Netflix… and a certified couch potato. I am otherwise an ā€˜armchair girl,’ but I had to find an alternative seating arrangement to also accommodate my lovely, full-sized partner.

ā€œFull - sized partnerā€is this hubby or a canine companion?
My longest sit was 51 days . Love long sits. Lots of trips with the dog and new walking mates, great tv. Excellent books to read, did the garden as the Home Owner was in The States, an American citizen, having and recovering from Knee surgery.
Took the dog back to my place to see friends and family for the day. Time flew by. Going back in the summer for a re sit.
If I start feeling bored I feel it’s my fault and get doing something- usually involving exercise with my charge. Luckily the dog hates bad weather too!

Not really. I’ve had a couple of time dragging sits but that’s because they were less than perfect.

There are days when I feel I don’t want to go out at all but that’s where the pets company is just perfect.

I can always find ways to entertain myself or enjoy just vegging out. But sometimes I’m impatient for something that’s yet to come or I’m plain old homesick. Personally, I usually like to keep my sits to two weeks or less. Even when the first sit I was offered came in unsolicited, and turned out to be the first sit I accepted, I asked to break up the six weeks, so I could return home for a spell. Those hosts obliged and found someone to sit in between.

Yep this sit is nearly 3 weeks and a tad too long in winter I think.

I’m on only a 5 day sit but I’m still looking forward to getting home for a sit-free month. Audrey, one of the cats on this sit, knocked over a plant and vermiculite went everywhere. She is often up to such shenanigans.

The thing with sits is, you book them ahead of time — sometimes months ahead — and by the time they roll around, you might not be as keen, for whatever reason.

There might be nothing unexpected with the sit, but you might have other things going on in life that mean you want to be doing something else or be back home.

That’s part of the reason I’ve avoided booking too far ahead.

Agree with you. I am looking forward to nesting. BTW this is my favourite picture of Audrey.

Yes, this. It always astounds me to see sits advertised a year or so in advance. Somewhere on another thread someone mentioned seeing Christmas 2027 sits already?? :exploding_head: I mean, Stuff Happens… I wonder how many of those far-advanced sits actually go off as booked? You have no idea what might happen in life. I know people book Big Trips far in advance; that’s just never been my life. So I also don’t book sits too far ahead.
Just depends what one is used to I guess.

I don’t find time drags on a sit. Can always go for a walk, take pictures, and as long as there is internet I can spend/waste (far too much) time online

Rubio here is the hyperactive earthquake here. Last sit fridge magnets were victims and a plate off the kitchen top. My strategy is leave lots out on tops so he can’t move about easily.. but maybe clear surfaces result in fewer breakages?
The Home Owner knows he’s a nightmare so he is my go to scapegoat! Or scrapegoat?

When Rubio is at large.. big things happen!
I can forgive most things but when he goes behind the tv at Christmas! I may need heart tablets on my next visit here!

This homeowner has used museum wax to adhere vases, lamps, planters, etc to surfaces. This planter that she knocked over today has a unique bottom that may have hindered use of the wax.

We had a lovely day today- it’s not so cold, the sky was blue, the dogs had a lovely long beach walk, our son video chatted with us because he was bored at the in-laws place, I made chicken curry, but….. I want to be at home with my own things around me, and different clothing, and I want to play my Saxophone… and visit my Allotment. Something has shifted.
