As the owner of an elderly, distinguished gentleman void (as seen above doing his best Vampire impression to get me to stop vacuuming!), I always get a little nervous around Halloween. I tend to keep an eye on Walter’s movements and if it looks like there’s trick or treaters (called guisers in my part of the world!), I’ll keep him inside until the fun dies down.
It’s always fun to get into the spooky spirit, but it’s also a time when do we need to be extra careful with our pets. From chocolate hazards to loud noises and strangers in costumes, Halloween can be stressful for our furry friends.
Whether you’re a pet owner or a pet sitter, I’d love to hear your tips on how to keep pets safe, calm, and happy during this holiday! What strategies have worked best for you?
We’ve taken to leaving a bucket of candy outside, so trick or treaters can help themselves, because our dog is easily triggered and we don’t want to shut him up in a room or such.
That’s a good one @Marion - I’d love my Walter to look cute in a bow tie but I know he wouldn’t like it. As you can see from his photo he makes a fine vampire with no costume needed!
It’s a joke, because I once found our dog with a spider in his mouth, with its legs dangling out and wriggling. I yelled so loudly involuntarily, he actually spit it out. So him in the spider suit is turnabout. It looks like a spider is devouring him.
