Hopefully some home owners will read this especially those with Children.
Toasters and toaster ovens can be notorious for setting on fire because there’s a build-up of crumbs inside. Keep your appliances clean and food-free to prevent remnants from catching fire.
Quite often I am cleaning the toaster and I am amazed at how full of crumbs they are.
Are people not aware of the risk?
Ours gets a good shake out in the garden regularly, long before you could feed a couple of families on the crumbs .
But you’re right, a few minutes cleaning certainly helps
I’m so glad you brought this up. This is one of my pet peeves! I’ve been to many houses where the toaster hasn’t been cleaned in a very long time. Even when I’ve stayed with family members. It’s so disgusting, and dangerous as you mention. Nice to know I’m not the only crazy person who likes a clean toaster.
I think there are two types of people – people who think about this a lot and people who don’t. I don’t have a toaster oven for this reason. I do have a toaster. My spouse never empties the bottom. I do – all the time. I also keep it disconnected when not in use. When I sit, I always check out the condition before I use the toaster or if I don’t have a choice, the toaster oven. I think they’ve always been okay.
I’m the person in the household who checks such things. My husband wouldn’t ever think to, unless the toaster burst into flames. Good thing I always sit solo,
LOL.
He’d be a terrible sitter, but would never want to do it, fortunately.
Toasters, shower drains, dishwasher and washer filters, dryer lint catchers, toilet tank whose floaters don’t work well so water drains in the toilet 24/7… in my family I’m known to check and fix these things.
Re: the latter, sometimes when I go to the washroom at a restaurant, it takes me a little longer because I notice this issue and fix it.
