It’s not quite time to post to the ‘short notice’ forum, so I’m looking for any advice here. I’ve actually had a few applications. One rescinded d/t high cost of flights, but the others have ghosted us. How rude!
I put a link to my listing in my profile and would appreciate any ideas you might have of ways to make my listing more enticing to sitters.
Thanks for looking!

Hi Kay and to the powers to be at THS,
I just logged on to Community Forum and read Kay’s post, “Toronto newbie having trouble…”. I clicked on her link and instead of Kay’s Profile, it was mine that appeared! A glitch? Help!

Hello @Kay and @imhale … to save you time Kay… Just dipping in as KarenE is now offline. To save you time finding, I’ve just updated your profile link and re-opened the post for you.
To reassure you Imhale… the reason you saw your own profile was because the link was to “preview” not to Kay’s actual profile. In this instance, as a member, you’ll automatically see your own, but no-one else can. Everyone would just see their own profile. All the best, Vanessa

It looks to me like a great sit - and were I not already sitting your dates, I’d apply.
But it is pretty close in and I’m usually committed months in advance.
Maybe the news about the problems at Toronto airport are scaring people away?
I’ll watch for future sits.

Hello @Kay and welcome to the community forum. I find it interesting that in the same week there was a post from a new sitter in Toronto voicing frustration that they had yet to be accepted for their first sit. A successful sit - for owner & sitter - requires effort on everyone’s part. The positive outcome - of a successful sit for all concerned - is the reward for the effort that needs to be given. That initial effort is the groundwork that makes it far easier for later sits, once that first sit or sitter occurs.
We are in times when everyone - owners & sitters - needs a Plan B and C. Even well-written listings can benefit from Plan B - where the owner takes steps to search for and directly invite sitters. Unfortunately, it’s realistic that not every listing will be successful, so you do need to be considering that a Plan C may be needed. For now, I suggest you work on taking active steps to search for a sitter.
I don’t see much to be improved with your listing, we would reach out to a couple of sitters in the area who are new to THS and would like to get a great review to get started (it can be tough for new sitters, but many already have extensive experience outside of THS). Not sure if anyone would be willing to fly last-minute amid all the chaos and price hikes.
Thank you, Toml! It’s our fault for posting only 2 weeks out, as we just joined as members. Now that we’re up and running, we will be sure to post our sit request listing ASAP, as far out as possible.
Thank you for taking a look for any areas of improvement with our listing! I’ve reached out to some local folks, and have gotten responses. They all have respectfully declined my invitation, but I am just happy to hear back, even if it’s to decline versus no reply at all!!
We are definitely on the hunt on other pet-sitting platforms as well. I felt bad reaching out directly, but one sitter reassured me that I was not a bother and it is normal etiquette to do so, so I have sent out more invites- to no avail. It’s OK, I know these things happen and we are prepared to go another route if necessary. Just hoping we find one here.
