Thank you Temba, you’re very kind ![]()
Sending positive thoughts.
I share the guilt, we are just back from a wonderful sit where we had to arrive a day late because it clashed with my best friends funeral. The HO were fabulous, arranged for a neighbour to feed the cat and made sure we were comfortable with some food ready in the fridge for our late night arrival. It was so lovely that they didn’t add to our guilt and grief. Lovely people and delightful cat. Hope your partner improves and you are soon back on the road.
Absolutely get it. Neither sitters nor Owners can ever guarantee that emergencies won’t happen.
As an honourable person, you r naturally going to feel terrible whenever u cannot meet an obligation.
I’m still new to this, and I was impacted conversely with a sit cancelled last minute as the owners had medical issue so their trip was off. Nobody’s fault, and I was able to find a wonderful substitute gig within 48 hours- and I had started my adventure allowing for a plan B for cancellations.
Chatting to a number of owners, it’s clear to me that they too often have a “last resort” plan. And I’m finding that regular communication for all future bookings allows a high level of trust to develop for us all. Good for u for handling your predicament and for caring so much.
No need to feel guilty, @Oztravels .
It’s far better to cancel so that hosts have time to arrange Plan B than to try to press on with a sit where you might not be able to safely undertake the responsibilities of taking care of the pets .
Wishing your wife a speedy recovery
Dear sitters, I recognize you from your avatar, we’ve talked a bit in the past and unfortunately we couldn’t meet because you were asked to extend the sit you were doing at that moment and you couldn’t accept mine anymore (which I appreciated very much because you were loyal and accurate about what you were doing).
I don’t know if you remember me, but I remember you very well, because you left me a message so beautiful that I won’t ever forget: “it’s because of people like you that our dream of travelling has become real and possible”.
Don’t feel guilty about canceling, please. You are wonderful people. A very similar thing just happened to me, with such coincidence that before reading the full message I was thinking this forum post was made by the sitters that had to cancel my sit.
I’m sure the owners understood and empathized with you and I wish you to resume travelling as soon as possible.
Hello @giuvax Yea I do remember the conversation and thank you for the kind thoughts. THS has become a very important part of our life and we hope to continue to meet more lovely hosts and pets in the future. Hopefully we will meet in the future when the stars align.
thank you so much for sharing this with us, it’s so helpful. I just suffered a traumatic back injury and am unable to move/walk. I notified the HO today that I’ll be unable to make the housesit and I’m feeling so badly about it. I hope she is as understanding as yours were. ![]()
