I sometimes leave a toy as a gift, especially if the pet doesn’t seem to have many and loves them. I’m sitting two dogs at present. The older(11 yrs) shows no interest in toys at all..
in contrast the other younger one (2 yrs) has a big container full of them. I always ask the Home Owners which are their pets favourite toys that the pet really enjoys.
Dylan, a French Bulldog, loves his caterpillar very much and his squeaky footballs.. interesting which toys are indestructible and which get chewed first! He loves toys with bells in! He gets very excited when one interacts in the garden especially.
Some pets I’ve sat just destroy the toy.. that is the fun for them! Some Pure Pet Puritans out there!
This is my neighbour’s Lab, Gertie. This is her favourite toy. The owner calls it “Buzzer” but it’s a bee! Obviously! This is the biz!
We’re bought a lot of toys for our two young cats; all kinds of balls, things to grab in their mouth or paws and they like them a little but they don’t play with them a lot. But boxes, they love boxes, as all cats do. And we found out by accident that they go crazy for a single sheet of rapping paper on the floor or balls made of rapping paper. Go figure.
This is another dog with his favourite toy, not sure if he is carnivorous…His name? Well obviously. Jasper Carrot!
My present sit has a very playful 6 year old going on 7, Gus”. He’s a Jack Russell Dacshund cross. He used to play with the cat, Max, till one day the cat inadvertently bit him.. Game over. Gus has never played with the cat since. He felt he had overstepped the mark.
Gus loves his toys his favourite is a serpent that involves a lot of tugging.
Rabbit, squirrel, bat, snake, game bird, a variety of balls, some squeaky including a lion.
Let the games begin!
This is absolutely the best toy for cats that I have ever found. I have worked with hundreds of cats as a foster parent and pet sitter and nothing compares to this incredibly cheap simple toy! I bring it as a gift on all my cat sits
I enjoy buying toys for sit pets.
At home, our dog is spoiled. He has collections of toys, which he loves to tear up. He especially enjoys ripping out stuffing and destroying squeakers.
The toys he tends to like the most come in a monthly subscription box that includes several toys and bags of treats. He gets excited when we get delivery packages, because he thinks they’re for him.
We keep many new toys on hand and dole out new ones to keep him happy. Like he knows he’ll get new toys each time we groom him or give him a bath.
We also keep extra squeakers on hand, so we can restuff toys that he especially likes. You can buy bagfuls on Amazon, for instance.
Now that’s one very lucky pup! Great tip how to recondition the favourites! I always bring some as a sitter. Gus here found the little squeaky lion on a walk with the owner and brought it home!
I had a sit one winter when my sit dog kept finding gloves that someone had dropped. They’d be frozen to the sidewalk and she loved gnawing them free. To her, it was as if people kept leaving her gifts all over. She’d insist on dragging each glove or mitten home in my rental car. When I was returning the car at the airport, I wondered what the rental people would think of all the single gloves and mittens in the back seat, like what kind of weirdo was I?
This could be your solo sitting signature the one glove for wintertime sits! Loved that story! Thanks for sharing it! Yes it must have exposed you to comment at the car centre!
Was the dog a Retriever, keeping his hand in?
How does it work exactly ? Excuse my paw understanding.. do the cats High-five it? I really haven’t a clue but it’s obviously proven its efficacy! This could single handedly make me a cat sitting Mary Poppins! Please write back! Are they available world wide?
The cats on this sit have no toys.. their playground is the garden. They are hunters, very successful hunters. They also enjoy relaxing after the kill.
