I think I’m too westernized. The only fish eyes I’ll eat are the ones in small anchovies. I can’t eat the big eyes. But my daughter on the other hand…
Thank you for sharing this valuable information.
Sorry you got mucked around and flying international too.
I ask HO about their return, if they are delayed/cancelled flight/unfortunate accident and hospital stay etc, what do they have in place in case they can’t get home, none have answered with an actual back up plan, it might be something THS could add into their HO guide for them(I don’t know what the HO part of THS is like, however not just ICE actual if you were delayed and your sitters had to leave on the date. We have had a couple of sits where they had flight delays, thankfully it was just a few hours later so no biggie. However all the same very stressful. x
The airline industry has certainly become more challenging for multiple reasons after COVID.
I’ve noticed many HO reluctant to even take sitters outside their country for this very reason, especially HO in “ideal” locations like France, Italy, Greece, and especially reluctance to hiring Americans. I’ve had many ask me “Are you going to be here already or are you planning on flying in for the sit?” It can be a deal breaker. Also have asked me if I have a VISA or if my 3 month Shengren was going to end while on the sit ie any change I wouldn’t be even allowed in their country. I have had sits in Vienna and France, but both HO were not native to these countries and more trusting of an “outsider”. It is understandable but frustrating part of the situation on both ends. Agree, flying in the day of may save you in the short term but usually is a bit of a risk. So many moving parts in travel!
Those seem like very normal and responsible questions. I’ve bookmarked some sits in other countries for future potential, and certainly make sure to arrive in the country (or Shengen if that were the case) at least a few days before any sit.
It’s not so much about trusting an outsider as knowing the potential barriers for a smooth start.
Glad it worked out in the end.
I wouldn’t be too hard on yourself either. Most cases that situation would go without a hiccough. Besides, you had enough foresight to suggest a contingency plan.
Hope the sit itself went well
Good advice! Thank you.
