Traveler's insurance

What is the best traveler’s insurance these day’s? I Always buy the extra protection on my airfare, but want something for overseas. I have medicare at home, yet that doesn’t cover travel. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I’d probably only need something for 30 days maybe 60.

I’ve used the Allianz annual plan - which has a 45 day trip limit. Only had to file 1 claim which was for an overnight hotel, taxi to and from airport and 2 meals when a flight was diverted because of weather. The trip was actually longer than 45 days but there was no question about the trip length when I filed for reimbursement.

As Australian residents, we use Cover-More for all international travel. They won’t cover non-Aus residents, and they don’t cover ‘in-Australia’ travel for Australian residents. What we like is that you can do a 365 day plan, and you can renew your plan, even if you’re not back in the country.

In the UK, we just took out 12 months, travel anywhere in Europe policy ( 31 days per travel max). £150 excess on any claims, two of us 45/61 - for the grand total of £31 - A bargain!

I had that with an airfare, I’ll have to look at the policy.

Are you UK Citizens? I’ll be coming from the states via Canada. I had one several years ago when I spent a winter in Guatemala. Fortunately I didn’t have to use it.

Yes, we are UK citizens

I have two policies with Allianz so i sent them a questionnaire to see what they cover. I’ll probably just extend the one.

Depends on where you live. I used to sell travel insurance as I was a travel consultant. I live in Canada and am covered up to a certain amount on my credit card and take out an annual policy and then top up if my trip is more expensive or longer than the duration covered on my annual policy. Travel insurance can be complicated and you have to be very careful to make sure you are properly covered when you travel.

I’m from the U.S. west coast. When i lived in Guatemala one winter i had world Nomads. I always buy the coverage when i purchase my airline tickets. I sent the company a request for a quote with all the various fees snd trip totals, the basic one was around 300.00 for 30 days. I want to compare, and as you stated ensure i have proper coverage. I’m here in Canada currently and have to see a chiropractor and I’ll be paying out of pocket, but I sent the company an inquiry to see if they’ll reimburse me.

Where are you currently sitting in Canada? Hope you’re enjoying and avoided our big snowfall in Vancouver last week

Toronto. It snowed today a little, but not really sticking. It sounds like all the Pacific Northwest including B.C. are getting bombarded. A friend in Portland has lost power again. Crazy how the west is getting hit more than the east.

Ah a subject very close to my heart. If you are over 65 and living in the UK insurance for over 30 days is hard to find. Our retirement age has been raised to 67 but the travel insurance world has not followed. I think we are expected to sit down and vegetate after we retire.
However, some companies have cottoned on and the Post Office are one of them. Very comprehensive insurance. A policy can be sought for most circumstances. And the even better news, it works. We had a family tragedy last year and had to fly home very quickly. Lots of hoops to jump through but they paid out. We are still using them on our round the world expedition. Highly recommended for “older” UK citizens

I’m a U.S. citizen and over 65. I have Medicare advantage at home. I’ll be in the UK just over a month so I’ll probably just get a 30 day plan.

It’s cleared up in Vancouver now!

In Canada, our travel insurance on our credit card is covered until we’re 75 which is actually quite good!

Any US citizens just buy medical travel insurance for international travel when you have Medicare at home? I don’t want to pay for travel insurance that my credit cards takes care of and I can always change my flight since I have status on United.

Used to get that in UK but stopped about 10 years ago
