Uk sit in dorset

Hi I’ve put august dates next year had 2 requests lots saves however the requests are both from abroad .How long is it ok not to contact .im interested in one couple but worry how they will meet my dog first ?

You should respond immediately. Many sitters will withdraw their application if they don’t hear back within @ 48 hours. I have only met the pet before the sit twice in over a decade of sitting. So if that is a requirement you need to put that in your listing and be prepared to have few applicants unless you’re in a REALLY desired area.

If you have a spare bedroom you could ask if it’s possible for them to stay the day prior, so that they can meet your dog. But if they have reviews then you will know whether they are dog people or not. And if they are dog people, your dog is likely to love them.

@Rogan4. I have had a look at your listing as I’m an Aussie sitter who has been coming to the UK since 2016 to sit during your summer.

Your listing is not straightforward where it involves your daughter, her home and her dog as well as your home and dog. If I was you, I would take down your listing until you have the correct photos where the sit will be in your daughter’s home. With 11 months until you need a sitter, you have plenty of time to secure one! Am I right in that the extension is happening now and not when the sitter would be in residence?

You are the THS member but this August sit would be at your daughter’s home. She, I take it, is not a member and it would involve looking after her dog as well as your own.

I would suggest you read the Terms of Service carefully as there are potential issues with the arrangement you are requiring e.g. emergency vet payment, possible no claim on insurance if there were problems etc.

House & pooches look lovely @Rogan4 but it sounds like this is not the sit location so that’s a non starter! As @temba says, pics of your daughter’s place asap plus she should probably join THS too unless you’re going to do all the comms, the meet & greet, the review and the full instructions for both pooches. Are they both with the same vet and do you have an account for both? Can you make a decision about both pets in an emergency? A sitter won’t want to deal with two of you, just one & as per THS Ts & Cs that all needs to be clear and agreed up front. You have tonnes of time and are in a fab location. #ducksinarowfirst

@Rogan4 It’s not usual for sitters to meet the pets before commencement of a sit, especially if they’re necessarily travelling quite a distance (whether from another sit or from home).

To be blunt, we wouldn’t apply for this sit because it’s not straightforward. We prefer to deal with pet parents, not with a relative who doesn’t actually live at the property but who will be including her own dog with the sit dogs. It’s too convoluted. For best chance of finding a good sitter, I’d advise your daughter to take out a membership and list her own sit. I realise you say that she works but, if she can’t find the time to liaise with her potential sitter, that signifies a lack of interest and commitment. THS accounts are not supposed to be shared with other family members.

Hi
Thank you for your comments but I think u misunderstood as the reason I’m dealing with this is that we do things together as share care of both dogs.
The comments about not being committed are not true we are on a 3 week holiday together as large family .
And hence decided together with any offers of pet sitting we would do everything with the offers which is best for them us and our very valued 2 dogs

Hi Heather

If you aren’t happy with any of the three applicants that you ready have , you can decline them .

THS terms are that the listing must be accurate and include at least 5 internal photos of the home where the sitter will be staying .

To conform with the T&Cs you should probably take down the listing and re-list when you have the accurate photos of the property . Could you delete the photos of your home and post external photos of your daughter’s home and gardens as a minimum for now and do you have architects plans that show how the home is going to look when the building work is finished?

If you want a sitter who is already in U.K. you can state this in your listing . Most often a sitter is coming for a holiday ( even if U.K. based ) so won’t be local , they will meet your pets on arrival or you can invite them to stay in your home the night before for a handover .

I agree with previous posters: I do think that your daughter needs to get her own account and post the sit that will be taking place at her home. Apart from anything else, sitters need to be able to rely on reviews that relate to the property in question and not a relative’s home.

FWIW, I think it’s against TOS for more than one household to share an account. There was just a thread about this recently and I believe that the HOs account was closed, but I’m not sure.

Whoever owns the house where the sit will be happening needs to be the account holder, point of contact, and of course all photos must be of their home otherwise it’s just blatantly lying in the listing. They’re the one and house the insurance will cover. If the insurance is covering your house and the sitter burns down your daughter’s house, your daughter is going to be SOL.

Hello everyone!

Thanks for popping on to give OP some help.

They’ve let us know that they’d like to wrap up this discussion so I’m going to close the post as it’s run its course.
