What are some unique features you have seen, used, come across, etc. in homes of HO strictly on THS??? I will start this off.
On this site, I have come across the following;
$5K coffee machine!
Heated (not so unique but nice)…and A/C garages!
Whole house in-floor radiant heat…apparently the heat somehow gets through wood, carpet, ceramic, marble…it doesn’t matter…it is heated.
Heated handle bars on a snow thrower (that was really nice!!!)
An elevator (good for my luggage!).
A steam room…that may not be unique but to use one in someone else’s home sure was for me versus a public spa!
Doggy doors that are open/shut by the pet with a transmitter on the collar…and are weather/water tight!
Car Elevator.
Induction Stovetop (new to me at least).
Whole-house vacuums…no more cords!!!
Generators aren’t unique…but some of the homes I have stayed in are 6,000 sq. feet and the generator does the ENTIRE house, including A/C/heat/security systems
In-house cameras…I don’t like them…
Japanese knives seem to be the sharpest knives of all.
Exterior lights under decks.
A log cabin…it is interesting how they are constructed.
A trap door with a small elevator…for unloading groceries from the garage into the pantry…
Reverse osmosis water…maybe not unique but unique to me.
Misting systems in an outdoor entertainment center…apparently to cool off in the hot summer but not to get you wet.
Doggy specific washing stations…great idea!
On one of my scheduled sits…apparently the apartment complex has a door man. Maybe not unique, but unique to me.
Little thermometer looking devices to put in house plants, they beep when the pots need water.
BLINDS/shades that open/close automatically, much like a lamp that has a timer on it.
I like stained glass lamp shades now!
Fi Smart Dog Collar (I imagine a smaller size can be used on a cat).
They were not mentioned in the listing initially (HO as since updated it however when I mentioned that to them) and they appeared disabled…but how do I know that?
This has been an issue on multiple homes though and not all cameras have lights that light up. On all but one camera, I simply unplugged every camera from the outlet or the base of the camera and reattached them on my way out. On the one camera that was hard wired (kitchen), I simply covered the camera with painters tape and covered it with aluminum foil (to distort sound)…just to be sure if it was one…it wasn’t working for them.
*Large Outdoor kitchen including pizza oven ( in addition to the indoor kitchen)
*owners own pub with beers on tap
*Robot cleaner for the heated swimming pool
*Indoor Robot vacuum cleaner that cleaned three times a day , emptied and recharged itself
*Instant Boiling Water taps ( no need for a kettle)
*Trap door in floor of dinning room leading to a hidden cellar (originally used to store butter when the home was a dairy farm in 1500s )now storing a generator
*marshmallow forks for the fire pit.
YES!!! When I use someone else seat and it isn’t soft close…SLAM!
I thought about an additional item in a home I sat in but didn’t list it. I didn’t use it and I know a lot of members on this forum are European so to them, it isn’t as big of a deal.
But one home I stayed in…it had a bidet!!! In America…they are unique! It was in the master bathroom so I didn’t use it…and I feel it would be weird to use a bidet in someone else’s home when I wouldn’t even know where to start…and frankly, it looked intimidating.
For those Americans reading this (and the Europeans laughing), it was a real one, not a toilet seat attachment. You can’t go to Costco and buy it for $300.
It was actually next to the toilet, just as high as the toilet with its own water and drain. A proper bidet.
A beach hut, a hot tub and a solar heated room in the garden all at one home. The room where the cats slept was just for them ,beds, night time heater, several climbing things, toys and a sink and food cupboard.
Robot grass cutter, which worked every day but Sunday and had a name.
Wifi tracking app for cats, which opened the cat flap and recorded the time.
Several very expensive coffee machines
Greenhouses that open and close windows depending on weather.
What a cool thread!
Let me think -
A fancy Miele oven that you told what you were cooking. The oven weighed it and would steam cook everything from rare to well done depending on preference!
A japanese toilet! A rather weird experience having temperature controlled jet of water blasting your nether regions and then been gently air dried!!
A full on cinema room complete with 100 foot tv.
A fully fitted gym room better than my local gym.
A home in Cyprus with a gate at the end of the garden that led onto a promenade and then steps down to a popular beach with beach bars!
Numerous outdoor pools
A large home sat in 3 acres of land and surrounded by fields and woodland which meant many mornings waking up to see deer, hares and peasants roaming in the back garden.
Robot cleaners (some can sweep and mop floors).
Fancy coffee machines.
An automatic bed you could electrically adjust the height, adjust the head level to prop you up and control the firmness.
Not sure if having your own bedroom suite during a sit counts complete with sofa, large tv, walk in wardrobe, king size bed and double shower room.
A high tech home that turned the lights on in certain rooms just before dusk, close curtains and blinds and drop the rear shutters. The HO left you the ipad to change anything…but I didn’t dare!!
@Silversitters the Quooka tap we used had boiling, chilled & sparkling water depending which way you turned the ring on it and the speed at which you pushed the ring up and down. A real challenge for me first thing in the morning to try and make a cup of tea when sparkling water kept coming out!
An old fashioned metal safe in the bathroom wall (part of the home used to be a post office)
Another robot lawn mower with a name (they put in the homeowner’s name on the app, and as it’s a regular sit, we still get notifications that she is “trapped” or has “slipped”!)
A “Swim Spa” - an extra large jacuzzi with lights and multiple settings including one that allows you to swim on the spot against the jets of water
A swimming pool that we had to net frogs and newts out of (newts have a much higher survival rate than frogs after being in the bottom of a swimming pool)
A coffee machine that looked as if you would need full barista training to operate
Stair rails and banisters made from natural wonky pieces of wood
