Veteran sitters who joined THS in the early days (2010–2015), How did you first find out about it?

I’d love to hear from veteran sitters

How did you first find out about the platform, and what made you sign up?

Thank you for sharing your story, but my question was how did you hear about or stumble across the platform?

I heard about THS back in the day via travel groups on Facebook, but didn’t join till years later, because I used to work in an office full time before switching to telecommuting. Saw THS come up repeatedly in travel groups’ word of mouth.

I became aware of THS in 2015 when I was travelling to the UK for 7 weeks but had a senior cat. A friend suggested I get a sitter. THS was the first site that came up on my internet search and I joined. I had no success getting a sitter but did by joining Aussie House Sitters. When my cat passed away in 2016, I took out a Combined membership so I could pet sit and have stayed on that, despite no longer having pets.

My answer is amongst this previous discussion

We joined in 2015 after meeting a couple from Liverpool on a cruise. They were telling us about their pets and I asked who looked after them while they were away. I was very intrigued and we joined as soon as we returned home to Canada. We were successful in obtaining the very first sit we applied on and it took off from there. A year later we applied on two international sits and got those.

Joined THS 13 years ago. We met a couple in Thailand who were members, so investigated it, and here we are 13 years later. Not sure how much longer we’ll remain members though.

I have been with them since day one in 2010

Somehow they must have found my details from another pet sitting site that I was on (and still with) and invited me with a 6 months free subscription.

Such a family friendly site and everyone just used their common sense rather than all of these ridiculous changes

I joined in 2013 , I was coming back to the UK from living in France and a friend suggested it as she had had people on Workaway who had told her about it. As I had looked after people’s pets in France while they went ‘home’ it was a good fit. The first sit was in Norwich where I am originally from for 5 weeks. She was new and so was I so it was a steep leaning curve. She had builders in who should have been finished but of course were not. She was in India and often not contactable and huge parcels of textiles arrived quite often as she was a history expert for textiles and a professor running courses on them. I saw lots of friends and family and it was good fun. You could speak to a person then if needed and it was much more personal than it is now. Things weren’t regimented and we used common sense. I don’t do it all the time I have another life. 80+ 5* reviews and I do a lot of repeats as people have become good friends which is something I didn’t expect but is an added bonus

I don’t go back to 2015 - I joined in spring 2019 and had my first 2 sits in July-August. My brother introduced me - when I retired in 2018 and started taking long trips he found TH to replace me as his sitter.
Somehow, with probably 1 review I was accepted for a 3 week sit in half of a 19th century listed castle in Somerset, UK. And then picked up another week in Edinburgh. And it got better - a few more US sits and then fortunate to get 1 of those wonderful sits on Jeju island, South Korea (lots of English teachers at the 3 English language school on Jeju). And on from there. Over 115 sits, 108 reviews.

I joined in December 2015. I was already aware of THS as I’d searched for pet care on the internet while I had cats of my own although I didn’t use any of the services. Joined after my last cat died and now just look after other people’s cats.

I actually heardsbout Ingrid a colkeaguewho was thinking of getting a cat but was worried about what to do for her holidays. She actually heard of THS from another colleague and said, This would be perfect for you and gave me the name of the website.
After saying goodbye to my own cantankerous Kitty in 2015 i’d decide to wait getting a new one. Helped others like my colleague to take in kitties ( always rescue)
Got my very for sit as a lastminute as Eileens sitter had cancelled so Christmas 2017 started my journies with THS
