Hi again,
Ideally, we would like to do both but it doesnā€™t suit as we 13 yr. old Thomas puss he canā€™t be left alone and we need someone to be here all the time. I couldnā€™t get anyone from pet sitters this time as we are going interstate for 2 weeks and found a friend who could help instead.
We had a lady from another country town during the Covid period as only regional Victoria could travel at the time and she doesnā€™t have any pets so she can travel virtually anywhere. Iā€™m only a volunteer in an Op shop so travel is always in our plans and friends say to us, youā€™re going away again.

Ha. ha.
yes, Iā€™ve heard of the Pyrenees of France/Spain but need to research it more.

Hi Cozzie
Being ahead of time the same problem arises for me in the UK looking for US sits, Iā€™m not sure with 24 time zones how staggered listings would satisfy everyone.

I second the above comments on combining location searches with other filtres. Instead of entering all filtres for multiple states individually, I donā€™t see why we cannot enter, say, ā€œNevada, California, Arizona, Idaho, Oregon, Utahā€ together.
Another thing that could be considered is adding a distance filtre. Say I am based out of Reno, Nevada, and I want to do sits in northern Nevada and northern California. Adding a distance to be able to cover northern California would be great. Right now if I save searches for Nevada and California, I get results for southern California and Las Vegas area, which I do not want.

I would also like a blacklist feature of sorts. I donā€™t want to get notifications for sits that I know I wouldnā€™t want to do - for example, vegans who donā€™t want you to bring animal products into their home and defile their sacred space or vegetarians who donā€™t want you to cook meat in their home or pescatarians who donā€™t want you to cut and cook beef with their kitchenware. I once had to bring my own cutting board and skillet to a housesit that I had agreed to and interviewed for. All this while Iā€™m on the carnivore diet myself (100% animal-based). Same with those who ask personal medical information in order for you to be able to sit for them. I keep seeing notifications for the same listings and it gets tiring. Iā€™d rather blacklist or block or whatever so they can find someone else who will bend to whatever they ask for.

Hello @PHYTO and welcome to the community. Lots of great suggestions for search filters - thankyou. Enjoy connecting with our members and sharing in discussions!

Hi. In answer to the second part of your post, I use the + arrows in the map to narrow my search down to the area Iā€™m interested in. I used the + to narrow down the area, and then move the map around until I get the exact area Iā€™m interested in. Currently Iā€™m only covering a few hours driving distance from my home. I search my home city, and then use the + until I get the map the size of that area. It would only work for the first part of your suggestion if they were states with neighbouring areas.

I havenā€™t read the whole thread, so my apologies if Iā€™m repeating a suggestion. As my first choice is sitting dogs, Iā€™d like to see an option to select only large dogs or smaller dogs (maybe a weight range?). I think many people may have a preference. If not, theyā€™d just select both boxes.

Thatā€™s fine if youā€™re looking for housesits that are currently seeking sitters. What I need is to be able to define and save searches beyond political/administrative divisions (states and counties) so I can get notified when one meeting my criteria becomes available.

Sorry, I didnā€™t notice that it was geared to saved searches. I understand now. Thanks.

I have multiple saved searches by date. I would love to make them even more accurate by adding different countryā€™s to different searches.

For instance:

  • in November I am free from work and would like travel. As I have 3 weeks I can go further away this time.
  • in December I would like a housesit in my own country
  • in April I have a week of and Iā€™ll be able to go abroad but not too far away so to specific countryā€™s.

Is it possible to install this?

Hi @Coriena and thank you for your saved search suggestion. This has been a much discussed topic so Iā€™ve moved your comment here so that all ideas for the product team are in one place, for when they next come to review this. Youā€™ll also find some interesting debate about other ideas. Thanks again

I would really like to see a search feature ā€˜accessible by public transportationā€™
It is really time consuming to go through many listings to determine whether this would be an option as often they are listed for the nearest town/city but are actually in a village a distance away.

I would love a feature where we could hide sits that donā€™t interest us. Iā€™m new to THS, so I check new listings frequently and have multiple saved searches. However, sometimes a sit might match the search criteria, but be undesirable (e.g. wrong breed of dog, too many animals, house is cluttered or dirty, etc). Iā€™d love to be able to hide those listings - like you can hide bad matches on dating websites!

I like the idea of adding a ā€œHome Swapping Friendlyā€ feature. As Sitters, we sometimes mention it in our application letters.
