Welcome guide sent separately through email

I have a sit coming up in about twelve days time. I never received a Welcome Guide so I chased it up with HO via WhatsApp. She asked for me email and said she would send it via email which she has done so. Not through the THS platform. Is this cause for concern?

No, some members aren’t very good at technical stuff, and the welcome guide is notoriously difficult to complete. As long as you’ve got one, it’s ok.

Not at all. What’s important is the content, If it reflects what you have agreed on. As @Chrissie mentions, THS format is not easy to manage.

Good luck!

Hi @devongirl

It’s great that you have a welcome guide! I’ve only ever had one proper guide for a sit - it’s often a few scribbled notes at best. And in a way it’s better that you have received it via email, as the version on THS can be updated by the home owner after you’ve read it, but you wouldn’t know that it’s been updated unless they tell you, or you spot a difference yourself. At least you have a ‘static’ version which will form the basis of your agreement with them.

No, as others have said the format is on THS is hard to navigate for both HOs and sitters and if you have the owner’s email you have an additional way of contacting them in case of emergency.

Hope you enjoy the sit.

We have done several sits where the hosts prepared their own Welcome Guide and sent it by e-mail .

In our experience, the WG that they prepared was more comprehensive than the THS one so no problem at all .

It’s also easier to print out yourself , compared to the THS one , if that’s what you want to do .

A Welcome Guide sent in advance of the sit ( in whatever form ) is a good indication of a thoughtful host who wants to prepare for a successful sit . ( Green Flag )

Not a problem. My Welcome Guide is a Word document that I send to sitters via email. Like many HOs, I hate the THS WG format

The Welcome Guide can be made into a PDF and sent as an email or link that way. It is a cumbersome document and a lot of hosts don’t use them and may use a word document instead. I wouldn’t see this as a big red flag, but if you have particular concerns about unanswered questions, you could simply request another brief call to answer them. You might also write to the homeowner letting them know your concerns and that you still haven’t received it, so you write questions asking for answers and suggesting that if answering is writing it too much, you meet for another video chat.
