My go to plug solution also @DMJ
Yes @DMJ, I have often had to do that but, as you say, a large saucepan it very handy too.
Fill a small plastic bag with water, and tie it in a knot. Place that in the hole of the sink and it will work as a stopper. Put a plate inverted over it and you won’t have to worry about puncturing the bag.
When I go to the grocery store, I always swipe a few extra produce bags, those thin plastic ones. They’re still allowed in my area for now. They are immeasurably useful for all kinds of things whether it’s protecting something dirty from getting other things dirty or keeping things dry. If I have leftovers I’ll put the whole plate directly in a plastic bag and put it in the fridge. I do not microwave the food in the plastic again though! That doesn’t seem right.
If you find that the drapes over windows aren’t closing all the way, you can use a set of pants hangers with the little clips on them to keep them closed tight and prevent light from coming in, or peepers from peeping in.
I have also used them as a chip clip or to keep whatever bag I need in the kitchen closed.
Also, you can hang a small cookbook or a printed out recipe from them, just hook the hanger part over the cabinet door and now you have an eye level page hanger that will stay clean off the counter.
One thing I never understand is how people hang towels on oven doors or dishwasher doors and then those towels swipe all over the floor every time you open those machines… So I’ll also use a pants hanger to hang the towel off the edge of a drawer if there’s only a knob pull.
I don’t know if this counts as a hack, but every time I move something to be more convenient or hide something so that it doesn’t break, I take a photo, and I also have a little list that I keep of what I did so that I can remember to put everything back! I also take pictures of the inside of the refrigerator so that I put things back where they were if I have to shuffle things around.
What a great idea! Thanks
I use binder clips as bag clips. I’ve been in many houses with, for ex, stale cereal or crackers, because the inner wrapper isn’t closed. I often leave these binder clips as gifts.
Hi @mars. I too use binder clips for many things, usually kitchen-related (inner bag sealers, holding a recipe book open, keeping drapes closed, etc.) I’ve never thought to leave those holding inner bags closed as gifts to homeowners. That’s a great idea! Thanks!
I don’t want to have to keep track of the binder clips so I just use pants hangers
If you are a serious tea drinker then only fine china will do
Embark upon a sit without a corkscrew ! We never go anywhere without one (well, you know, overnight. We don’t take it to Tesco or anything). We’ve lost sooo many because we pop it in our hand luggage
That’s genius! I use them for bowls, melons, onions but never thought of bread
On one sit the HO loved houseplants & they were EVERYWHERE. All over the kitchen worktops, in the bathroom, every surface existed just to hold a bleepin’ plant. I took photos & then moved them all out of the way until placing them back perfectly in position for their return
@Saltrams most bottles of wine in Tesco are screw top anyway.
