What do you think of these robot cat litter machines?

I had a hand me down RoboLitter for about two years. It worked great, but as soon as it began stopping on occasion (I’d have to reboot) I got rid of it. Now I have another brand which was highly recommended by two YouTuber who test cat things. Both liked the one I have, especially since it’s NOT cave-like which my cat didn’t like. My sitters have had no issues, but then, I’ve only had it under two years so far. I do have a regular sitter box for the “just in case” moment though.

I’m looking to get an automatic litter box for my mum’s cats and would love some real-life feedback before diving in.

I haven’t actually seen any of these in action - only glossy ads promising a spotless, odour-free dream (which feels… optimistic).

For those who’ve used them:

  • Which ones genuinely made life easier?

  • Which ones looked great but turned into a maintenance nightmare?

  • Any unexpected pros/cons I should know about?

Would really appreciate honest experiences before I commit to a very expensive plastic spaceship :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I had three sits with automatic litter boxes. All three hosts were very happy with them. They are very big. All three had them in the laundry room. They are big and make a slight noise when turning the litter. I thought it was so easy to clean. End of week you open up the bottom drawer and remove the bag and replace with a new one. Cats had no hesitation using it.

Here’s a thread for you to read @Kat_ldn

My daughter likes her auto litter but I’ve heard others who didn’t.

The best litter set up I’ve ever had on our many (nearly 2 dozen) cat sits was a pellet style.

SO easy - ZERO smell. It was called Purina Tidy Cats Breeze in a system with a “peepee” tray with pads below it that you pulled out. The unit is called Tidy Cats Breeze Litter System. The best.

@carpediem16 That’s my favorite too. I do repeat sits for a couple that use the Breeze system and it’s the best!

Thanks that’s reassuring. What model was it? Or do you have a picture of it by any chance?

I’m researching to buy one - what was auto litter box model and filler you used?

What model was a success for them? Thanks

Fab! Which model turned out a success for them? Thanks

@Mark_B @Jenny @Maeve We now have two threads running re automatic litter boxes. Can they be merged?

Since I posted here I am now on a private cat sit. They have Litter Robot by Whiskers. It is the quietest one yet. I can’t even hear it turn. They also keep theirs in the laundry room which is close to the living room and I can’t even hear it. It also seems a little smaller in the surrounding area on the outside so doesn’t take as much space as the others. I couldn’t tell you what those other models are as I don’t remember but they were not this one.

All done @Twitcher - thanks for the heads up!

We use the Litter Robot 4 by Whiskers. We have used it for almost three years now with no issues. It comes with an App that we do not use. We just like the convenience. We empty it once a week and use Boxi Pro liter. We only have one cat. We also have the liter hopper that you can buy that automatically refills the liter when it gets low. I first came across them in sits and really liked them!
