I think that’s because they have NY locations. But it’s actually a chain started in Italy.
Haha, if we are pet sitting in the US (where we live) the FIRST thing I look for is a Trader Joe’s near by!!! (Bonus points if it is one of the states where TJ’s also can sell wine).
Out of the US well, any grocery store that is within walking distance. Grocery store with the best fresh produce - we have found in our travels that good lettuce (NOT iceberg), melons, avocado, and other fresh veggies are not always readily available (or look absolutely pathetic). This is our biggest challenge when traveling. We are 80% plant based (no meat for me at all) so it’s always a treasure hunt for us!!
Oh and if anyone is in a state in the US that has a Wegmans…that is your ticket, right there! Look no further. (Though I shop at TJ’s and Wegmans. Being from Wegmans Mecca, hosts who live near a Wegmans should put it in their profile!!)
Miss Wegmans. We were spoiled, because we lived less than 10 minutes from one on the East Coast. Now, we live less than 10 minutes from a TJ’s, though.
@Maggie8K while I do miss SoCal and I REALLY REALLY miss being able to buy wine at TJ’s (or any grocery store but especially TJ’s), I’m in Wegmans Mecca where in fact I sometimes run into Danny Wegmans, and I have 5 Wegmans within a 5 - 20 min drive from me and the TJ’s is 13 min away and it’s next to one of the Flagship Wegmans.
As much as I love to travel, I’m always so happy to walk into my Wegmans when I get home. And when abroad, I’m SO happy to be back at TJ’s when I get back…so spoiled!!
That sounds amazing. Totally understand. I think of all stores, supermarkets make me the most happy.
TooGoodtoGo is also available in the US. These few weeks in Asheville I have gotten great bakery bargains from Whole Foods and the Fresh Market - deserts and bread. OTOH a ‘specialty food’ basket from Whole Foods was very disappointing - value/quantity and selection. I compained through TGTG’s app and after explaining why I was unhappy got a full refund credited back to my credit card. And it happened immediately so sure it was a bot that gave me the refund.
I love Eatalay, I’ve only been to three of their locations, but I got the impression that each store is unique. The store in Chicago had a larger selection than either of the stores we have in California. The LA store, has a cooking school and an open concept with roof top dining and the Silicon Valley store has more take out/grab and go options. All three felt like fun foodie playgrounds
Yes, each one I’ve been to has been different, probably because it depends on the space available to them.
If in Europe (excluding UK ) it’s the supermarket that closest to me that I go for as I’m using public transport.
I often try to visit Aldi & Lidl if available, I like to compare prices & quality with that of the UK. Usually much better in both categories in non UK cities.
