Where have all the london housesits gone?

Hi @CCUK. Thank you for posting! I’m in the US and not that familiar with UK differences, though I’ve visited a couple times … when someone else planned it. =)

That image with the dates is super helpful! Thank you for sharing your travel-agent expertise!

I didn’t realize that UK groups go on strike annually? I don’t think in the U.S. any strikes are that well-organized … and usually management tries to head those off.

@ExploreDreamDiscover I agree that you need to find a London proper sit at least once. We had a wonderful sit in Putney, in May 2022, before all the 5 nonsense started. The home was 2 blocks to the river Thames, at which point you could walk in either direction, joining dozens of other dog walkers, runners, cyclists along the river path. Or a quick ride on a double decker bus to Chelsea - the bus ride a sightseeing experience in its own right! It remains one of my most memorable sits. I do hope you get to experience something similar.

@ExploreDreamDiscover I’m moving back to London this summer. I’ll be in touch when we’re set up again and get our profile updated. If you’d like to sit for our two cats, maybe we can arrange a date.

Yes @Pips We had Hammersmith, Battersea, Putney and Archway last season before all the nonsense. At least we ha e those contacts to get a leg in for getting back to that timezone. I will contact our (now) friends and see when they are going away before we book flights. Once there we can hopefully fill gaps.

Notice all my screenshots have disappeared! Referred to the tech team because they showed such disturbing results I presume. I have asked they be replaced once they realize they are correct. We’ll see.

:flushed: Gosh, I didn’t think you’d done anything worthy of moderation. How very peculiar!

I’m back to back London sits until April, but I have found the app notifications are too slow! and they disappear as I’m opening the notification. so I miss out on a lot due to this, even if you’re on the ball.

So you are in the UK atm?

Neither did I. They were completely on topic and validating the original post.

Hi @Timshazz @Therese has gone off line so I will pick this up.

The screen shots were removed because the first set were lifted from member’s listing and the location details were included. Another member flagged your post for that reason also.

And the other two?

Happy to repost without that screenshot. Apologies, that wasnt how it was explained to me at first. Theresa has just done so.

Depends what you define as london @Pips? I guess Croxley Green is on the London metropolitan tube line but yes it’s in Hertfordshire and yes about 20 miles from central London.

I’d say that being Hertfordshire is a pretty open and shut definition of not being in London.
Reading is on the Elizabeth Line and that isn’t London either.

My Feb example was removed because I posted a screenshot of the 2 listings that came up. Apologies, I hadn’t realized that was against the rules. The results showed 2 sits. 1 which was in Croxley Green which is actually Hertfordshire not London. So even when they do pop up in London alerts, they aren’t necessarily London. Unbelievable

Last night I had 4 alerts for London come through. 1 was still available on waking but I was up at 4.30am to catch an early train.

@Pips My saved search for London, helpfully included an Epsom sit today. ?

Getting closer! Only 40 minutes to get from Epsom (in Surrey) to London Waterloo on South Western Railway.

Totally agree with you on these listings being misleading @Pips @Timshazz. Epsom is not London just like Reading and Hertfordshire aren’t. If you were an international sitter hoping you’re staying in the big smoke you’d be sorely disappointed :frowning:

@Cuttlefish Google maps is definitely my friend. I will probably be able to pass the London Cab test by the time I get my next London sit! I have the Oyster App and Train Ride as well to judge how much public transport is likely to cost. Its a significant part of the budget if you end up in Zones 3 or 4 and want to see a fair bit.
