Another cutie
@Colin Penny is sooo adorable!
A beautiful dog and beautiful scenery on the Cowal Peninsula, Scotland. House sitting doesnt get any better for us

Hi @PetsSit looks lovely!
@Amparo we just had a pair of rosellas visit the tree in our Canberra sit backyard. I couldn’t initially see them but knew their sound instantly. Just beautiful.
Canberra has many magpies (aka maggies), another of our native birds who chase bike riders in spring, defending their territory. So much so they have recently been celebrated with The Big Swoop statue…eating a chip in true Aussie style!
@Crookie feeding time here today, the Greenies (Lorikeets) are here in the dozens but the cockatoos and Corella push them away.
Love the parrots from budgies to cockies @ziggy. I used to have a pet Lorikeet, an injured rescue. Of course its name was Lori. It couldn’t fly but became parent to a baby Currawong we rescued. What a circus!
That’s so cute Crookie! One of the pets I am looking after here is a Galah, he is 45 yrs old! They have had him longer than they have had their adult children. He couldn’t be let free as he was found badly injured when found and wings were no good. Mr Bill
@Crookie you wouldn’t believe what just turned up at my back door
How I wish I could upload videos here!
I have a male magpie that comes almost every day. He sings to let me know he is here and sometimes will tap on the glass. Part of my duties here are to feed him and the kookaburras. They all eat raw kangaroo meat and will take it from my hand! It’s wild!
There is a big black bird, looks like a raven, corella? that also comes and tries to take the meat.
Got I all on video yesterday. Love the song of the magpies.
Lots of rosellas and this beauty came yesterday. I also give them seed.
Absolutely love this life and I am grateful for every moment. Never would have this if I had stayed home.
@Amparo what we discover when we don’t go looking for it, that’s how I think it is for us. The birds here are beautiful, I have a sanctuary here with everything possible e.g. Lorikeets, Corella, magpies, Galahs, cockatoos, family of ducks, Yellow Bellied Gliders, kangaroos, koalas, all on this one five acre block. I never tire of watching them all, unfortunately this time there isn’t as many as they are all flying looking for water I think.
Last sit I had four magpies to handfeed plus ruddy annoying Noisy Minors and Indian Minors to feed, they kept coming inside the house and it got really crazy. The black birds will be crows and they are scavengers and I really dislike them. Crows raid crops, frequently steal eggs and chicks from other bird nests, and have been known to steal shiny objects such as articles of jewelry from people. Yet, these vocal black birds are among the most intelligent.
I’ll send you the bill for the avian lesson
Yes these crows are aggressive. I have discovered that I love birds whilst pet sitting in Wales. They fascinate me and I love learning their names and behaviors.
My Welsh family took me to a bird sanctuary in Snowdonia. It was amazing.
They gifted me a pin of several of the local birds to put on my backpack, which I didn’t. Put them in my suitcase that got lost.
But I have the feelings forever.
@amparo the red and green beauty is a male king parrot. Glorious!
@Amparo forgot to mention. Magpies never forget people either. They can cause serious damage to you, swooping, when they are nesting. But if you have been feeding them and they get to know you, or they bond with you, they will return year after year after year, even bringing their babies with them to meet you, every year. For the uninitiated, never look up at a magpie when it swoops, it will take your eyes out. Some posties here paint sunglasses on the back of their helmets so the magpies swoop to the back of their head, not their face. It’s a real hazard for our postmen
Extraordinary @Romana
Congratulations on accomplishing your dream.
Enjoy to max.
Meet Clyde, a curly-coated retriever! I have never met this breed of dog before. He is very sweet— a really good boy!
We started a 3 week sit yesterday in Mill Valley, CA, just north of San Francisco. Life is rough here. Pool, patio, bbq, great weather, and the Blue Angels planes will be flying this week to entertain everyone!
We are looking forward to enjoying this amazing home and area, and taking Clyde on lots of hikes nearby.
I love CCR! They’re a rare breed in the UK but lovely dogs. If i stop house sitting then it’ll be the dog i will get.
Hi @PVGemini what a gorgeous boy!
Enjoy the rest of your time there.
@Amparo and @ziggy I see your birdlife and raise you an echidna!
Not technically at a house sit but on the way home from ours at Canberra. This was yesterday at Lilli Pilli near Batemans Bay, southern NSW. Never been to this area before. It’s so beautiful we just have to come back.
@Crookie oooh a rare sighting. Ok, you win this one Beautiful area by the way, used to spend my weekends there when living in Canberra.
