Wild West THS Facebook Forum šŸ˜‚

I’ve found this forum incredibly useful in helping us on our sitting journey over the last 18 months. I feel now we also have enough experience to provide support & advice. I mainly comment on this forum but joined the THS Facebook forum/group a few months ago. Such a different experience over there - maybe because people can post & comment anonymously. It can nasty quick over there which is a shame because I think it creates the wrong impression about the majority of HOs and sitters on THS. I’ll carry on participating as I think the positive outweighs the negative but just remember to put my hard hat on next time when the anonymous trolls pile on.

I believe this fb group is not officially THS ??

Yes the Facebook group can get a bit fierce, mainly from the anonymous members. Some of them are very entitled. I always check out when the posts turn nasty. Some good members though.

I joined the Facebook group awhile back and I did comment there a handful of times. It has a very different vibe there–the obnoxiousness factor is way higher.

I think one of the main issues is that way more people comment on a post there than here in the forum, and there is a lot of repetition in what people say. And people are much more likely to just say negative things that don’t offer any value.

I still will check it every so often but go long periods without looking at it.

That would make sense. There doesn’t seem to be any type of moderation.

Agree with you.

You’re right - it’s definitely got a bigger audience & more chance of nastiness.

There’s two unofficial groups, One is awful, I think because anyone can join so THS haters create arguments for the sake of it. The other one is much friendlier

I left the Facebook group for exactly those reasons.

Unmoderated FB groups are the Wild West. Putting aside the negativity though some good info can be gleaned from some posts/replies.

I salute you for your bravery, truly.

For myself, I find FB a toxic environment overall — and would even go so far as to declare it a pox on humanity in its current iteration…imo, of course. However, It’s factually a huge concern with regards to the parent company’s terrible data privacy practices & ethics, particularly in these unregulated times — at least in the US.

For that reason, there’s also nothing I find more frustrating than when a business uses FB or X as their primary form of CS communication and interaction with their user-base.

Hopefully I’ve not offended anyone; I guess I’d just close by saying I’m grateful for these dedicated Forums & the community here, which I find oh-so-much-more pleasant and convivial.

I joined the FB forum recently. What’s amused me most isn’t so much the Wild West atmosphere, but the rage that’s provoked among some members by people who post anonymously. It doesn’t matter what you’re saying - however mild, gentle or constructive, if you’re ā€œAnonymous[insert number]ā€, you can bet that at least one person will pile in with ā€œWHY ARE YOU POSTING ANONYMOUSLY, WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO HIDE??!ā€ Or, the one I’ve just seen: ā€œI DON’T RESPOND TO ANONYMOUS POSTS!ā€ (Great, super, thanks for letting us know.)

It’s all very entertaining.

And no, I don’t post anonymously.

I do look at FB and I find it has its uses. But you have to keep it at arm’s length, like all SM platforms.

That said, I couldn’t agree more about companies using SM sites as their main - or in some cases, only - arena of interaction with customers. Apart from anything else, I don’t want my dispute with the dog food company, or whoever, to be carried out in public. And where does it leave those people who, for whatever reason, have no accounts with FB, X.. Et al?

The Reddit THS group has a similar hostile vibe. I imagine it would be a deterrent to anyone who visits as part of their research before paying for a membership.

The Reddit group is crazy sometimes. Some very entitled sitters on there, some of whom also have anger/paranoia problems :woman_facepalming:

As others have mentioned, there are 2 unofficial THS FB groups. One is way better than the other - it is moderated and more mature than the huge one that has been around longer.
