14 day review deadline

Can anyone tell me precisely what time the clock starts ticking on writing a review and precisely what time the 14 day window closes?
E.g if a sit runs till 1st Oct does the review window open straight after midnight on the 1st i.e 00.01 on 2nd? (Regardless of whether you leave morning, afternoon or evening of 1st?) And does it end at midnight on 14th? Or would it be the 15th?
And what time zone is used? Is the UK time zone? And if so is the same time zone used for reviews in other countries too?
It would be very helpful to know especially when sending reminders to speed up the other side so they don’t miss the deadline!

@Lokstar
In the UK it starts running at 00.01 the day after the sit ends and ends at midnight of the 14th day (the day after the sit ends is day one)

I’m not sure if the time Zone alters depending on which country you are in - i suspect it stays on UK time zone

@Colin Thank you. That’s what I thought :+1:

given that working with time zones in software code is a FREAKING NIGHTMARE, i’m 100% confident all timezone functionality is pegged to the UK.

May I just say that I find this 14 day review deadline stressful… As I find the whole “giving stars” system stressful and I wish THS would drop the stars for both sides and extend the review deadline to a month.

Assuming you’re a sitter, start drafting your review during the sit and have it ready to post when you leave. Most people spend a few minutes in the bathroom at some point in the 2 weeks following a sit, and that’s really all the time it takes to actually post it. As for the stars, unless there is something that really stands out as sub-par, problematic, or not as described, they’ll get 5 for everything from me

That’s you and me agreeing totally. However, some HO are so overwhelmed with their daily life after coming back from a vacation, need to get their kids ready for school and so on… So chasing them becomes a bit stressful, for both sides I guess. And yes, I had the luck of never having a really, really bad experience, so I never deducted a star. But when looking at listings, I always read the reviews, and also the reviews the HO has given. Sometimes you really wonder what people are thinking. One HO gave only 4 stars because the kitchen utensils where misplaced. Hello?? I tend to do long-term housesits, and of course it happens that in the end I don’t place stuff exactly as I found it. I mean, I never re-organize anything, or if I do, I take before pictures and put everything back in place at the end. Anyway, I have stopped applying for housesits where the HO has deducted stars just like that for my fellow housesitters :wink:

Yeah, lots of people don’t apply for sits where owner marks down for dumb reasons or doesn’t leave a review of past sitters as it shows some red flags.

Such nutty reviews are great warnings for sitters. I appreciate knowing which hosts to avoid. That includes hosts who don’t review sitters.

For me, chasing hosts for reviews has not been a problem — I check whether they typically review.

Per a discussion with THS support, all times are based on UK time zones. So, along with Colin’s comments, the final days of leaving a review, the cut-off will be 11.59 UTC. As an example, if you are West Coast U.S. you will need to leave a review by 2.59p/3.59p (depending on daylight savings).
