Age of sitter in profiles

Yes, I agree with you for sure. And TBH, it wouldn’t really bother me to have my age listed, even after 65. I would be very frustrated with people who aren’t honest about themselves - sitters or homeowners.

I have just noticed the 65+ has gone on sitters’ profiles with an actual age listed.

As I have only just turned 65 this month, I was not aware of this. It seems to be totally unfair!
One answer may be to put your age/DoB in your application.
As for being doubly vaccinated as an indicator of being “older” - here in France anyone over the age of 18 is eligible for vaccination and both doses are given 1 month apart so that is of no help.

Hello,
I think the age should be indicated or it would only take two categories under 65 over 65
But why is the limit at 65?
Why not, less than 30 years, more than 30 years … or 45…

I would point out that when I say only two categories : over 65 and under 65, it was humor.

HI @temba are you looking at the App?

Hi @Angela_L , yes, that’s what’s on the App but I notice the website still says 65+.

Hi @temba thank you. Ages only appear on the App., what are your thoughts on that?

Hi @Angela_L. It’s just another of the inconsistencies between the App and the website, just like when a sitter doesn’t give feedback (or owner a review) and that is seen on the App but not the website. Some forum members, like me, might not have realised this inconsistency re age exists.

Thanks for your comments @ELNF. It certainly is unfair. As for vaccinations, in Canada we’re asked not to ask people if they’ve been vaccinated as some will have been able to get priority on the basis of pre-existing health conditions they would prefer not to mention.

Thanks for pointing that out, @temba. Angela, @Angela_L, my feeling is that the 65+ approach could easily be challenged as discrimination on the basis of age. I’m hopeful that changes to the website will soon follow.

As for honesty in providing age, I would suggest that when the company is doing the ID verification check, they could also verify age at that time for TH. In that way, homeowners could be assured that at least the age of the sitter is correct.

Sorry, missed the word “soon”! My point was that being vaccinated does not prove age - lots of younger, vulnerable people have been vaccinated

I didn’t realize the inconsistency about feedback either, so thanks for pointing that out. When I’m deciding whether to apply for a sit, gaps in feedback are somewhat of a red flag to me. Now I’ll review the website and the app, if I’m interested. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi @Snowbird all of this feedback will be passed on to the team. We really appreciate members involvement this is the way we make the product work for all of our members and give everyone the best user experience.

Thank you

Also the younger ones are not always in the vulnerable sector. I was vaccinated ahead of my age group as I volunteer in two areas of healthcare that were deemed essential services. I stayed quiet about having been vaccinated with people I didn’t know as some older than me may have resented me being given that priority.

I agree that these discussions are healthy and productive, or at least what I’ve seen so far. Before I posted on the forum, I did submit this suggestion on the website. I am one to always share my ideas … and at times they also get implemented, which is great. :grinning: I’m still of the opinion that TH is the best company for housesitting.

@Snowbird my husband and I were both vaccinated ahead of our age due to our jobs. I received my first dose a few days before my 79 year old mother who has a range of health conditions. Our second doses were on the same day.

Why have the ages for over 65s appeared all of a sudden.? I do hope it is not as a result of this thread as many of us were happy to keep it at 65+
Why do we have to show ages anyway, other successful sites don’t.
If sitters have to show ages, why not the HO?

Hi @Itchyfeet nothing has changed this is how sitter’s profiles are displayed on the App …

I’m happy with 65+.

Most members may not be aware that their actual ages are displayed on the TH apps! I found this out quite by accident when I accessed my TH profile on my cell phone and on my tablet. I clicked on the hourglass search icon, then clicked above on Sitters. I scrolled down to see my and my husband’s actual ages displayed on my profile! I promptly contacted TH who replied that it was a glitch in the system for the apps/applications. The tech team are now aware of this and a program to address this issue will be created sometime in the future. That was back on April 14, 2021. I understand how busy TH tech team must be lately but we hope the issue will be resolved soon. We prefer to have HOs see our ages as “65+”.
