I believe the TH application membership process requires our demographics, including dates of birth, (from driver’s licenses), etc/. I don’t think there’s any way for members to change this info on our profiles. You must have been referring to other websites, like the dating sites?
I think the dishonesty occurs when a HS applies for a sit they know they couldn’t physically handle. TH has our actual ages on file so there’s no secret there.
Yeah, I agree.
Hi @lmhale thank you for your patience, I will pick this up with the team.
Thank you
Why are you so against the HO seeing your real age?
If we can choose, I’ll have '‘forever 21’ please
Thank you for your reply. I was mostly alerting TH of the App glitch. However, I do feel concerned that with some of the more attractive sits, our applications may get declined due to our 65+ ages. We only apply for sits we know we can handle. Ultimately, it will be up to TH company to decide what to do with this 65+ issue. I will respect their decision.
I understand your position, and your concerns about what is a natural tendency for some people to make assumptions on the basis of age. However, I live in Canada and here discrimination on the basis of age is illegal. It’s therefore discriminatory to specify age on the listings until they get to 65, at which point we’re all lumped in together. Even though TH will decide, given they are a company operating globally, they need to adhere to non-discriminatory practices.
Very good point, Snowbird. Let’s trust that the powers to be at TH will come up with the best solution.
Me too! I’d like to continue being a sitter for a long time, so 65+ will feel less limiting when I get there.
Angela,
Can you share the feedback you got from your tech team when you reminded them of this App glitch?
Thank you.
Hi @lmhale, apologies for the delayed response, I’ve been OOO (out of the office) for a few days I will follow up with the team in the next day or so, when I’m back. Thank you for your patience.
Thank you, Angela. I look forward to hearing from you upon your return! Enjoy your time off…
I agree, and as I’m not yet 70 that is accurate enough. However, it will seem a bit dishonest if someone is well into their 70s.
I try to mention that I run with dogs as this helps dispel images of doddery, frail elderly.
Hi All and @temba the if you update the app it is now consistent with the web and we state the age as 65+ on both platforms. Thanks, Ben
Thanks @Ben-ProductManager for doing this. I’ve just updated the app and can see it is indeed consistent with the web, saying 65+.
Hi @temba We were aware of this fix having been completed and knew it would be good news. Changes and improvements may take a little time but they do happen.
Thank you
Sorry but why isn’t there a range for all age groups then. It seems a bit unfair to have 65+ but under that you have specific ages. It’s also another identifier as THS profiles are public and can be seen without logging in or having an account. If there’s a range for one group, then it should be for all.
I am going to chime in on this one because I also feel that there is a stigma attached to the age which is just a number. A person can be 65+ and have more anima, more life in them than someone in their 30’s. One’s energy and stamina, vibrancy, cannot be determined by the number of years they have lived. As far as physical fitness and abilities to do what is required during a sit should be discussed between the two parties, the HO and the applicant.
Hello Angela and @Ben-ProductManager This makes me think of ‘what do you want first, the good news or the bad news?’ The good news is that THS has established consistency, but for many the bad news is the current fix is an example of ageism. I originally created this post, and my goal was certainly not to have a uniform ‘65+’ adopted.
As you’ll see from today’s feedback from @travellingnomad and @Amparo, THS has experienced, capable sitters who may face ageism because of this, without being able to prove it. This type of discrimination should not be supported by anyone, but especially from a company the size of THS. Ageism is discriminatory and illegal in Canada, where I live, and is often cause for court cases.
I feel strongly about this point and am disappointed with how it has been handled. I realize you can never please everyone, but THS does have an obligation to not support discrimination on the basis of age.
