No!
This should be a paid job. It’s an exchange and should not feel overwhelming for the sitter.
Sharing a “Lots of Pets” Member Story from the website’s blog
Our friend Dr Scott Miller the charismatic Australian veterinary surgeon from Channel 4’s ‘Vet on the Hill’ and ITV’s ‘This Morning’ has chosen to spend his ninth wedding anniversary weekend on his first ever house sit, looking after a small farm with more than 70 animals included.
@Angela_L how fabulous! What an incredible experience for them to live as a family on a farm for the weekend, caring for so many wonderful animals
Hello @richfranke Welcome.
What you offer is unique. It may not appeal to some but it will appeal to others. There numerous reasons why we sitters do what we do. Your place sounds like an incredible experience for people who would enjoy your setting and lifestyle, a welcome opportunity, a dream, that may be exactly what they are looking for.
Post away. It’s the only way to know for certain.
PS you are above average looking for above average sitters.
They exist
Hi Temba, I agree, which is why I wonder if its suitable for this site. We do have a cleaner who comes, and the dogs can simply be run up the back garden. The biggest concern for us is just that the animals get fed and the fences are checked to prevent foxes coming in. We would prefer sitters who simply wanted to escape and would spend most of their time at home, which again may not be to people’s tastes. I mentioned proximity to the station more for city people to get here, but I realise i phrased it a bit backwards.
Thank you to all the supportive and welcoming replies. I appreciate all the concerns and naysayers who would find it all overwhelming, that is understood, it is not for everyone. I think it would definitely suit a fit couple better than a single person. Kids also if they were not too young. We have a fair amount of electric fencing to protect the birds from foxes and very young kids might get zapped if they weren’t careful.
What we offer here is seclusion in a woodland cottage surrounded by the animals. There are plenty of country pubs and walks near here, and its easy to get to from London, even without a car, though we’d recommend you have one as our rural road has no sidewalk.
It’s worth bearing in mind that I only look after the dogs and the house cats, my partner does al the other animals except on days when a volunteer comes to help. The dogs can be left for a few hours alone, and we would probably take 2 or 3 of them with us in any case.
Taking some of the dogs would make a big difference I think. Love dogs but find them by far the most high maintenance pets to look after.
