App won't let me cancel a sit

Hello - My sitter no longer feels comfortable doing the sit (she was due to arrive tonight) because my cat, after an unexpected vet visit today, needs to get gabapentin twice a day via oral syringe.

I am unable to cancel in the app because the last screen freezes (where you select the reason and hit cancel). AI chatbots lead to nowhere.

How do I cancel?

It’s easy enough for the sitter to cancel, and she is instigating this…. it’s just two clicks for her.

Hi @Cronmoax - I will pass this onto our membership services who will be in touch shortly.

She claims she can’t do it, but the “AI chat bot says the host can”. I’m so frustrated by this whole situation.

Please, sitters, don’t mark your profile as being able to administer medication if that isn’t true.

I appreciate it!

Aha I just realised it’s because the sit has already begun as it’s today. You need to email support@ or in the chat box type ‘speak to a human’ repeatedly….

I can administer medication, but if it was not discussed before accepting, then I don’t see why it is a sitters problem that they have to accept the new demands.

It’s frustrating yes, but looking after a pet vs. now having to look after a pet and administer medication is a different job altogether.

You can call the Urgent Supoort 24/7 Phoneline

Administering any meds must be agreed prior to a sit being confirmed, not after. The sitter is not claiming something which is untrue, but is making a decision about this particular ask, and is well within her rights to unconfirm the sit now the circumstances have changed.

It’s one thing giving a tablet to a dog, another to administer oral meds via a syringe, to a cat. Not everyone will be happy to attempt that, especially when the meds have just been introduced and the cat isn’t used to - or accepting of - the process.

You’re possibly also overlooking that, the sitter would be responsible for monitoring how your cat responds to this new medication. If kitty only started the gabapentin on the day of your planned departure, you can’t yet know how he/she will be, whether it be wobbly, sleepy etc.

I can understand your disappointment but do please spare a thought for your sitter in this situation.

I hope you or your sitter managed to successfully cancel the sit and that your alternative arrangements are working nicely. Mostly, I hope your cat is doing well.
