We have, on only a very few occasions, done sits which were near friends. On each occasion we asked the hosts during the pre sit chat whether they’d be ok with a day visitor or having a dinner together and they always have been so far. An exception was a last minute dinner arrangement we wanted to make mid sit. Ofcourse we messaged the host first. She said it was absolutely fine, but also that she appreciated being asked. One sit we took for a month was in the same city as our son and two of our grandchildren- a perfect opportunity to be near them and spend quality time. The HO said that was actually one of the main reasons she chose us- to support the family contact! Really sweet- we had a lovely sit and the grandkids loved coming over to see the dog or to join us on a walk!
And then there was one sit in a huge country mansion where we sensed the owners would not like visitors at all so we did not put them on the spot by asking. And ofcourse we did not invite anyone. Its all about communication and being sensitive and respectful.
