Backup plans?

As a sitter, do you ask the HO if they have a backup plan for pet care in case of emergency in which the sitter needs to leave the sit? I’m talking about very serious emergencies, which happen very rarely, but can happen. I wonder if HOs are encouraged by THS to have a backup plan in place?

We normally check there’s an emergency contact (or two) before the HOs leave & put those numbers in our phones. We talk vet arrangements and location as well, including how to organise payment if anything happens :+1:t3:

@Traveler99 We discuss this during our video chat. We accept sits in which the HOs have thought this through and provide emergency backups. Because things do happen, unfortunately.

Whether HOs automatically follow THS guidance on this or not, it’s in the sitter’s interest to cover. Otherwise, in a jam, you’ll be left scrambling.

Like @KenandMary1998 we have this conversation during the interview.

It’s never happened thank goodness, but always a possibility.

We also make sure to ask about stay-in-place or evac plans if there’s a natural disaster.

Do you mean you want the sitter to find another sitter or was that a typo?

No typo. It’s in the sitter’s interest to always cover this topic with any HOs they’d potentially sit for.
