Pillows!
Oh No ! @jcvbva not symmetrical
@jcvbva A sight like this makes me break out in a cold sweat. I know my boys will test all the pillows and decide the most comfortable one is from their brotherâs room and swap them. Then on the last morning, always after theyâve stripped all the pillowcases I realise we have the wrong number of pillows in each room and have to try to work out which ones need relocating!
My last sit had a bunch of pillows on the bed. I took a picture before I moved any so I could put them back the same way when I left.
@systaran haha yes we do this too!
Oh my gosh thatâs my house!!
Our friends two young sons came and to stay with us in Vancouver, they each had their own room with 12 pillows on the bed, all arranged meticulously!! On giving them the Platinum guided tour of their rooms I said âI need the pillows put back, just as you see them every morning when you make your bedsâ (They were 19 & 21)
I watched their faces they had just come off an 11 hour flight. Suggesting the best thing would be to take a picture, they both did. I think their Mother had also âwarnedâ them about not being âboysâ but being tidy and good house guests.
Finally I smiled and assured them that the pillows could come off, be stored and would only reappear 2 weeks later, after they had left ⌠their relief was palpable.
Reminds me of the movie âAlong came Pollyâ. Thereâs a definite (too many) pillow scene!
I love pillows on a bedâŚthe more the merrier! My hubs hates them but he doesnât make the bed (he doesnât see the purpose) so he doesnât have to deal with them. LOL
Thatâs insane! Did you know that it was an air mattress when you accepted?
Nooooooo! Youâre likely better off sleeping on the floor.
Weâve had all sorts on sits from enormous comfy beds to a noisy metal bed frames where you canât move a muscle without waking your spouse.
Since a third of the time on a sit is spent sleeping . I do read what previous sitters have said about the comfort of the bed and include it in our own reviews.
I wish the bed size was one of the filters on THS. We prefer a king, and canât select it, so it takes a lot of time combing through sits.
I donât sit full time, and I have a lovely mattress so as much as I love to travel, this has always been a challenge. Out of about a dozen sits: about 1/3 of the beds have been awful AND these are usually the main bedroom where the owner sleeps! I just donât get it! About a 1/3 have been not as good as our bed but okay. About another 1/3 have been almost as good as our bed. I havenât slept on any pullouts yet but this is because I wonât take those sits.
I think the problem with the really uncomfortable beds is I havenât mentioned them in reviews because it feels like a deeply personal thing to insult the bed someone sleeps in. But potential guests should be warned (in theory).
One can just mention it in passing. âThe home is cozy, a shower bath, a nice pull-out bed made ready for us and a well-equipped kitchenâ.
We too have issues with a few bad beds, but we donât mention it in the reviews, as itâs a very personal preference.
Likewise. When I was younger, I didnât have trouble sleeping on any kind of mattress, futon, cot, etc. Nowadays, Iâm apt to notice when a bed is too soft.
@jcvbva oh yes! I have traveled with a white noise machine for YEARS and even use it at home now! Itâs one of my MUST HAVEâs. I also now travel with a small portable fan!
@inthemoment SAME!! As well as how many beds are being offered to the sitter. If itâs more than one we increase our chances of finding one that suits us (just like Goldie Locks! lol)
@Smiley - ha, proof that itâs all so subjective. If we arrive and thereâs a mattress topper that is thick my husband immediately strips the bed and removes it. Too soft for us. We are stomach sleepers so what is comfortable for us is very different than those who sleep on their backs!
We have had several sits where I am in pain for the first several days bc of the mattress and then sometimes my body adjusts eventually and sometimes it doesnât. But soft mattresses (or mattress toppers) and memory foam where you sink in does not work for stomach sleepers!
Although my listing is already too long, Iâve now included a mattress description as a result of this thread.
