After the COVID debacle I find local HOs wanting to use me as a free sitter. They try, I respond that my intentions are to only sit where I am traveling to however, if I do sit, I would like to find that my proximity and you needing someone would be reason to leave a tip that would be appropriate since you don’t have to pay for a kennel or passive attention. Someone asked what kind of tip would be appropriate, I decided for 10 days and 4 pets, $150 would help with my needs for the accommodations needed to take care of myself. They turned me down. It’s okay, my attention and safety that I provide is worth more than nothing. You are all worth more than nothing. They would spend $300 or more for one animal. Your worth is immense!
Are you a paid member of THS? If so, you’re breaching the rules by requesting a tip. You’re risking your membership if they report you. Save it for Rover. You may want to delete your post (if possible), it’s a big no-no.

Yeah, that’s what this site is for, exchange of services. Not money. If you don’t want to sit locally, tell people that in your posting. That should reduce the amount of local invites.

It’s unclear whether you are a THS sitter and if these are conversations on the platform, or if it’s John and Pat asking you casually at a BBQ or aren’t even a member.

If you’re open to sitting locally, why don’t you just list yourself on Rover or otherwise go about it like normal paid sitters? You’d make more and avoid problems with THS, which doesn’t allow cash payments.

I’ve been working on my own llc. That’s exactly what I need to do. I’ve only been doing this for 2 months.
Ths is the wrong site to ask for pay. It’s a free exchange for lodging. If you’re doing this as a job, rover is where it’s at for you.
Ps. We all know we are worth inifinite amounts. We signed up to this site for a mutual exchange because in some situations bartering services makes sense. If this isn’t a fit for you, that’s ok.

Change your location from where you live to where you want to sit. That way anyone wanting you to sit “local” is actually where you want to be.

In case useful to know, there are many online platforms where you can set up an llc within 10 or 15 minutes. They charge a reasonable amount, which you could deduct as a business expense in the U.S.
